Fernanda was convinced that their actions were motivated by revenge. She shared her suspicions with Amory, who appeared skeptical.
“Really? I can’t see them being that daring. And why delay? Why risk missing their opportunity by waiting until we were almost gone?”
“Planning these things isn’t fast,” Fernanda explained. “And do you really think they would be that timid? I doubt it. If they were, they wouldn’t have gotten involved in illegal dealings in the first place. Desperate criminals don’t easily retreat.”
“I do harbor some doubts, yet those two are already in custody…”
“Their network might be larger than just those two,” Fernanda suggested, a slight smile playing on her lips. “Their partners, who were not in custody, might escalate their actions.”
“Your view is a bit too naive,” Amory replied, his cheeks turning pink with embarrassment.
It wasn’t entirely his fault; his exposure to the darker aspects of society had been minimal. His life had been plain and simple after working for Cristian, focused on legitimate business activities.
His experiences had been straightforward, and he had yet to encounter genuinely hostile forces. Even his awareness of the Reed family’s internal strife was framed as typical corporate battles over ownership, nothing more sinister.
Although he was aware of corruption in Zenithium, his limited firsthand experiences hadn’t prepared him to fully grasp the scope of its darkness.
“We need to involve the police,” Amory suggested without hesitation.
Fernanda nodded. “That’s one approach, but I’m considering a different method that might yield quicker results.”

Myron, Bonita’s father, never imagined he would lay eyes on Fernanda in Zenithium.
The moment he swung open the door, his mind briefly entertained the notion that he was hallucinating. After a beat of surprise, his expression transformed into sheer enthusiasm. “Oh, Miss Morgan, what an unexpected pleasure! What brings you all the way here? Please, come in.”
“I happened to be in Zenithium on business and asked Bonita for your address,” Fernanda replied with a composed smile. “I hope you don’t mind me stopping by unannounced.”
“Mind? Not in the slightest! It is an honor to have you here!” Myron beamed, his delight stretching across his face like the morning sun cresting over the horizon.
Still, he had a hunch about her true reason for visiting. Only days ago, Jett had come under investigation, and Myron strongly suspected the Reed family from Litdence was behind it. Fernanda had once been engaged to the Harper family, who were entangled with the Reeds through marriage. If she had traveled all the way to Zenithium, it was almost certainly in connection with that affair.
