Chapter 824:

And sure enough, Fernanda wasted no time on pleasantries. “Mr. Perry, I am here to ask about a few individuals.”

Myron hurriedly responded, “Who might you be inquiring about? I will tell you everything I know.”

“Are you familiar with a man named Kole Brooks?” She had obtained the name from Amory—Kole was involved in arms dealing with Jett.

“Ah, him…” Myron’s voice dropped to a conspiratorial murmur. “Was he not locked up?”

“Do you know if he has anyone still operating on the outside?”

“Now that… I’m not too sure about,” Myron admitted, sucking in a sharp breath. “I was never particularly close to Kole. I’ve only seen him twice at Jett’s place. He wasn’t much of a talker—kept to himself, you know. We’re practically strangers.”

“I see.” Fernanda showed no sign of impatience. Instead, a faint smile flickered across her lips. “I imagine Jett’s predicament has caused quite a ripple effect. Has it affected you much? If I recall correctly, you and the Ramirez family were quite acquainted.”

Myron let out a weary sigh. “Just bringing it up makes my head ache. How could Jett be so reckless? So many terrible decisions… If I had known sooner, I would have advised him against straying onto such a perilous path!”

He shook his head dramatically before continuing, “As for how it has affected me—of course, it has! Several of my businesses were investigated and shut down. When Jett first asked me to open those establishments, I had a nagging feeling something was off, but money laundering? That was never on my radar! If only I had been wiser… what a fool I was.”

His lament was well-practiced, dodging Fernanda’s true question with the finesse of a seasoned politician.

But Fernanda had seen it coming and was not surprised at all. Myron had spent years under Jett’s thumb, and men like him did not spill secrets easily.

She knew exactly where his weakness lay.

He was an opportunist through and through. After years of being shackled to Jett, he must have longed for the day he could break free. And now that Jett had fallen, Myron was likely the one reveling in it the most—eager to carve out a new place for himself in the hierarchy.

“Mr. Perry, with Jett out of the picture, who do you think will step into his shoes?” Fernanda inquired.

As she expected, that question struck a chord. Myron’s posture straightened, and his eyes gleamed with interest.

She continued, “I think they would appoint someone from the higher ranks. Zenithium ultimately belongs to Falconridge… Ah, come to think of it, I saw Falconridge’s top official at Curran’s birthday banquet. There must be some connection there. Perhaps I should reach out to see if there is any word on the matter.”

“Do you really think Curran might know?” Myron’s question dripped with casual curiosity, though the sharp glint in his eyes told another story.

He counted himself lucky that Jett had never given him an official title; he was merely a small clerk under Jett’s rule, a cog in the machine. However, his business acumen had granted him influence, and his dealings with Jett had always been financially driven.

That was why Myron had wealth but not power. And this entire fiasco, while inconvenient, had not toppled him.
