Chapter 829:

Realization dawned on Liam that this was all linked to the recent visitor from Esaham.

Fernanda pressed the gun against his shoulder, the same place where Cristian had sustained his injury.

“Wait!” Liam yelled, his eyes wide with fear, but it was to no avail.

A sharp pain erupted in his shoulder as Fernanda fired.

The gun was equipped with a silencer, muffling the shot, but the recoil was still strong enough to leave Fernanda’s hand tingling. She observed the blood oozing from his wound with a satisfied smirk.

Next, she aimed at his thigh, replicating Cristian’s other injury.

She fired again, and Liam collapsed in agony, blood pooling around him. Fernanda admired the handgun, relishing the retribution.

Leon looked concerned. “Aren’t you worried this will backfire? You could be charged with assault.”

Fernanda’s grin widened. “Backfire? He was just unlucky. When he attacked Cristian, he was supposedly shot by his own crew. How is that my fault?”

She cleverly shifted the blame onto Liam’s associates.

Leon, impressed, chuckled and gave her a thumbs up. “Well played!”

Fernanda eyed Liam’s prone figure. “Take him to the ER and call 911. Tell them the story I crafted. The police will find him there.” She almost laughed as she imagined the scene of his shock upon waking up restrained and surrounded by police officers.

Leon had been closely following the news and was well aware that recent events in Zenithium had altered the balance of power. Handling it internally was possible, but unnecessary.

The gravity of arms trafficking meant it would be foolish not to ensure those responsible faced full legal repercussions.

Soon after, the police arrived, searched the premises, confiscated the found items, arrested the remaining criminals, and secured the site. Fernanda walked away with a sense of satisfaction. She had finally avenged Cristian.

When she returned to the hospital, the first person she saw outside the ward was Amory. She greeted him with a bright smile, but his face was pale, and his unease was impossible to miss.

“What’s wrong?” she asked, a sense of dread washing over her. “Is Cristian alright?”

“He’s fine, but…” Amory faltered.

Before he could continue, Fernanda saw for herself through the ward window.

Through the glass, she took in the scene inside. A woman was hunched over Cristian, her shoulders shaking uncontrollably, as if she were pouring out every ounce of her sorrow in tears.

Amory felt his stomach lurch the moment Fernanda’s gaze swept over the hospital ward. He clenched his eyes shut, steeling himself for the inevitable storm.

“Miss Becker is here to see Mr. Reed,” he admitted, his voice tinged with resignation.

Fernanda’s lips curled into a smile that held more edge than warmth.
