Chapter 828
Chapter 828:
The man couldn’t hold back a scream. Fernanda said abruptly, “Leon, that’s enough.”
The man was immediately freed from the iron grip, and his jaw—sore from the pressure—hung open for a moment longer.
“Please! Don’t hurt me. I’ll talk!” he pleaded, frantically wiping his face.
Fernanda’s stare was cold enough to chill the air itself.
“Kole has been arrested,” the man said. “As for Liam, he left earlier on personal business.”
“Did you attack anyone on your way to the airport a few days ago?” Fernanda pressed.
“We did, and several were injured. It was all under Liam’s command. He claimed the target was responsible for Kole’s imprisonment. We were just following orders from Liam.”
Their livelihoods hinged on these jobs. With Kole now in jail and Liam potentially facing a similar fate, they viewed their actions as necessary for survival.
“Call Liam and tell him to return immediately!” Fernanda demanded, sliding the phone across the table to him. “Whose phone is this? Use it to inform Liam that he needs to come back at once.”
After witnessing the severe consequences of defiance, no one dared to oppose Fernanda.
The threat of losing his tongue had effectively persuaded the phone’s owner to hurriedly contact Liam, urgently explaining the situation.
Silence settled over the room once the call was made. The room was tainted with the residual smell of tobacco. Fernanda moved to the window and opened it to let in fresh air.
She stood by the window, her eyes fixed on the endless stretch of blue sky beyond.
The sky here stretched out in a shade far richer and bluer than the one over Esaham. It was a brilliant blue, with fluffy white clouds drifting above like scattered tufts of cotton.
Sunlight filtered through the clouds, bathing the houses and streets in a soft, golden radiance.
Yet, this scenic beauty hid the pervasive corruption lurking below.

Around thirty minutes later, the sound of a car engine approached.
The men by the gate tensed, poised for action.
Fernanda stood by the window, watching everything unfold at the gate.
She saw the gate swing open, and just as Liam stepped inside, a sack was suddenly thrown over him, swallowing him whole.
Liam, a skinny man in his forties, with hollow cheeks and sharp cheekbones, had an inherently severe appearance.
Unfamiliar with Fernanda, Liam sneered upon being placed before her. “Who are you? How dare you treat me like this?”
He was separated from his crew, and the oppressive silence made it clear that his men were likely being controlled.
At that moment, Fernanda casually toyed with a small handgun, one she had loaded with bullets found earlier.
“You don’t recognize me? You’ve been wreaking havoc lately. Isn’t it surprising that you didn’t see this coming?”
