Chapter 831
Chapter 831:
As soon as Fernanda stepped out, Jordyn turned to Cristian. “Tell me this is some kind of joke. You can’t seriously be with her! Do you know she is…”
“She is Fernanda Morgan,” Cristian stated evenly. “The woman I love.”
Jordyn felt the words hit her like a slap.
In all the years she had known him, Cristian had never once spoken of love. To her knowledge, he had always been indifferent to relationships. In the past, his mind had been consumed with academics; now, his focus was entirely on his career.
When had he even learned what it meant to love someone? And why had it never been her?
“Have you lost your mind? She was your cousin’s fiancée! The entire world knows it! How can you—”
Cristian looked at her, his expression unreadable. “She was Bobby’s fiancée, but she isn’t anymore. So why can’t I be with her now?”
“Because it’s wrong!”
“Wrong how?”
Jordyn opened her mouth, but no words came.
Yes, how was it wrong? Fernanda and Cristian were both brilliant and striking in their own ways. On paper, they were the perfect pair. And yet, Jordyn didn’t care about logic. She just didn’t want them together.
She tried again, but Cristian cut her off with a firm shake of his head. “Enough, Jordyn,” he said, his voice final. “We’ve been over this. We’re friends. That’s all we’ll ever be.”
Jordyn had always known this. Cristian had always drawn a stark, unyielding line between them, ensuring there was never room for misinterpretation. He didn’t want anyone to get the wrong idea—least of all her.
She knew, deep down, that Cristian harbored no affection for her. But knowing and accepting were entirely different things.
Jordyn had always clung to the belief that patience and perseverance could thaw even the coldest hearts. She stayed by his side, convincing herself that if she remained steadfast, if she endured long enough, he would one day look at her differently.

She was in no rush because she understood—Cristian didn’t yet grasp what it meant to truly like someone. One day, she told herself, he would.
Yet only now, in this painfully illuminating moment, did she come to understand. It wasn’t that he was ignorant of love. He simply did not like her. He never had.
He was entirely capable of falling for someone—just not her.
A wave of sorrow rolled through Jordyn. She swallowed hard against the bitterness rising in her throat. “And what about your grandfather? Do you think he will agree to your relationship?”
Cristian’s expression darkened at the mention of his grandfather, just as she knew it would.
“I don’t need his approval,” Cristian replied, his voice like the edge of a blade—cold, sharp, unwavering.
Jordyn exhaled slowly, her frustration laced with something dangerously close to pity. “Cristian, I know your grandfather has always held countless grievances against you, and I know you don’t care for him. But he adores Fernanda. Are you willing to defy him?”
