Chapter 836
Chapter 836:
He quietly acknowledged Cristian’s order and exited the room. “Love truly works wonders,” Amory thought. “If Mr. Reed actually lets Haley visit, it confirms Fernanda’s profound sway over him.”
Haley arrived the next morning, radiating classic elegance in a teal sheath dress and a pristine white trench coat, her hair perfectly coiffed in a chignon. She embodied the epitome of a dignified socialite.
She seemed unsurprised to see Fernanda there, almost as if expecting her.
Initially, she consulted Cristian’s doctor about his health and, reassured of his stability, proceeded to visit him.
Cristian regarded Haley with a detached coldness, as if she were a mere acquaintance.
“You’ve lost some weight,” she noted, her voice piercing the cold air. It carried a husky, alluring tone.
Cristian responded with a cynical curve of his lips. “Oh, really?”
Undaunted, Haley continued, “You’re overexerting yourself. You really should be more cautious with your health.”
“It’s nothing serious. Just a small venture I’m handling. I’m quite capable.”
Fernanda watched Cristian, noting his unnecessary modesty. A small venture? When had Vertex Investments ever been anything minor?
Though not as historic as multinational giants, Vertex Investments was undeniably a beacon in the business world. Its assets and scale were swiftly growing, making it a subject of study in business schools. This earned Cristian well-deserved respect, beyond just his family’s influence.
Hearing his understatement, Haley let out a gentle sigh.
Her gaze toward Cristian was laden with a complex mix of concern, resignation, and a deeply protective love.
“Cristian, I know you don’t like hearing this,” Haley said. “But I promised your late mother I’d take good care of you.”
Cristian responded with a sardonic grin. “Look, I’m grown now. I can handle myself, really. And honestly, I feel better the longer you’re not around.”

“It wasn’t your grandfather this time…”
Cristian interrupted Haley sharply. “I didn’t bring him up, and I already know it wasn’t him. Save your explanations; I know who’s behind this.”
He then stretched, feigning a yawn. “You’ve said your piece and made your visit. It’s time for you to go.”
His words were a clear signal for her to leave.
With a final dismissive gesture, Cristian closed his eyes, shutting Haley out completely.
Haley attempted to speak, but only managed a resigned sigh. Her eyes flickered from Cristian to Fernanda, unsure.
Noticing Haley’s intent to speak privately, Fernanda excused herself and stepped outside the room.
