Chapter 844
Chapter 844:
To his relief, Fernanda didn’t seem enraged by this.
“Now, it makes sense,” she suddenly said as realization dawned on her.
“What do you mean?” Cristian asked, confused.
“I once asked Leon to help me locate Mr. Bernard and the boy. Even Leon couldn’t find anything useful. Now I see. You had him lie to me, didn’t you?”
“No. Leon told me nothing of this,” Cristian said softly.
Fernanda blinked. It seemed Leon had truly failed to uncover anything valuable. Well, it made sense. Cristian’s past seemed to have been hidden so deeply that uncovering it was difficult.
“You don’t have to investigate it anymore,” Cristian said, gently squeezing Fernanda’s hand. “I’m ready to tell you whatever you need to know. I will tell you no lies, my love. If it takes the rest of our lives to tell the story, then I’m ready to do so.”
Cristian’s tone was full of warmth when he said the words “the rest of our lives.”
“Alright then. Where’s Mr. Bernard?” Fernanda asked again.
Cristian went silent at her question. After a while, he finally said, “He’s been gone for years.”
This news came as a shock to Fernanda. Her mouth hung open in disbelief as a wave of sorrow washed through her.
Lennon was gone?
She had prepared herself for this grim possibility for years. But now that it was confirmed, she still found it unacceptable.
Fernanda was heartbroken at this news.
Cristian could see the sadness on Fernanda’s face. With a smile, he said, “What are you thinking? He’s doing quite fine.”
Fernanda turned to him, her face mirroring her confusion.

“Then what were you saying about him being gone?”
“Oh,” Cristian said, “I meant he wasn’t within physical reach at the moment, so you can’t meet him for now. It seems you misunderstood me.”
Fernanda sulkily turned away from him.
“Couldn’t you just have said that? You had to make it vague and make me feel sad,” she said, pouting.
Her heart had broken when Cristian told her that Lennon was gone.
Cristian chuckled and said, “I’m sorry for being vague. Lennon is a retired soldier with impressive qualifications. He was later called back for a special mission. The last time I saw him was two years ago. It’s not easy to get in touch with him.”
“I’m happy that he’s alive and well. That means I’ll eventually see him again,” Fernanda said, her mood lifting.
“Yes. Next time I speak to him, I’ll send him your regards. I could even take you to see him if possible.”
This news sent a wave of happiness through Fernanda. The sense of doom that had taken root in her chest dissipated, replaced by a warm ray of hope and happiness.
