Chapter 873:

And beyond that, Fernanda had a good impression of Toby and Duran—they were humble and sincere. The raw emotion in their eyes when they had seen her spoke volumes.

Selma scoffed again. “Come on, that’s unnecessary. She’s dying, don’t let her drag bad luck into this house! Decades have passed without a meeting; one more absence won’t change a thing!”

Wouldn’t visiting mean buying gifts? And wouldn’t that mean her son-in-law would be footing the bill? What a pointless endeavor!

Duran’s face darkened, his hands curling into fists at Selma’s callous words. Fernanda, however, calmly held him back. Then she turned to Selma, her voice cutting like ice. “And what exactly makes you think you have a say in my decisions? Who do you think you are?”

“Hey, watch your tone! That’s my grandmother you’re talking to!” Erika snapped.

Fernanda arched a brow. “Oh? So your grandmother matters, but mine doesn’t?” Her eyes flicked to Erika with a sharpness that made her bristle. “Your grandmother is getting old too. When the time comes, don’t bother seeing her off, so you don’t catch any bad luck.”

Selma shot up from the sofa, her face twisting in rage, ready to retaliate. But before she could take a step, Toby rose as well, positioning himself firmly between her and Fernanda.

“We came here for one simple reason—to fulfill Fernanda’s grandmother’s final wish. That’s it,” Toby stated coldly. “Fernanda doesn’t need anyone dictating her choices.”

His already dim view of this household grew darker.

He had despised Robert, convinced that he lacked sincerity toward his sister. But Gracie had been stubborn. She had loved Robert, and Toby had been powerless to change that.

His greatest regret was not forcing them apart when he had the chance.

If he had, maybe his sister would still be alive.

His gaze on Robert was filled with nothing but disgust and resentment. If not for Fernanda, Toby would never have stepped foot in this house or laid eyes on these people again.

“Out! Get out!” Selma shrieked, pointing at the door. “I don’t care who you are! Get out!”

What a group of uncivilized individuals! They must be here to steal Robert’s money! She could not allow Robert to be duped!

Toby sneered. “If anyone should be leaving, it’s you! This house belongs to…”

“Gracie. You’re all living in her home.”

The room fell into stunned silence. Even Fernanda hadn’t expected that.

Selma’s face contorted in disbelief. “What nonsense! This house belongs to Michelle and Robert!”

Fernanda looked at Robert, studying his dark expression. It was enough to confirm Toby’s words.

“The deed is in Gracie’s name,” Toby stated icily. “And while she may be gone, this land—and anything built on it—remains hers. Which means it belongs to Fernanda now.”

“Robert, is this true?” Michelle’s voice trembled with disbelief as she looked at him. “This house is not ours?”

Robert clenched his teeth.

Back when he and Gracie first secured the rights to this land, he had inscribed her name on the deed as a grand gesture of devotion. At the time, he thought it was nothing more than ink on paper—something he could amend whenever he pleased.
