Chapter 877
Chapter 877:
Her later years were marred by sorrow and longing.
Now, this reunion was like a splendid dream, gracing the twilight of her days.
Macie woke up by noon the next day. She even took off her oxygen mask and managed to eat a little.
The hospital bed was propped up, allowing Fernanda to sit close, keeping her company and engaging in light conversation.
Macie, brimming with energy, regaled Fernanda with tales of her mother’s mischievous childhood. While Toby and his siblings were familiar with these stories, Fernanda heard them for the first time and listened eagerly.
Macie explained that Gracie was a mischievous child, inheriting a stubborn streak from Fernanda’s grandfather, Roger. Once Gracie decided on something, she was unyielding. This very stubbornness led her to fixate on Robert, disregarding others’ opinions and choosing a path from which there was no return.
Macie mentioned that she had often caught Roger secretly looking at photos of Gracie as a child, deep in the night, with a deep sigh. Although he was upset with her, he was deeply concerned for her.
Macie also noted that Fernanda bore a striking resemblance to Gracie, particularly in the eyes. She was convinced that if Roger could see Fernanda, he would be overjoyed.
Macie inquired about Fernanda’s current life as well. To keep her from worrying, Fernanda consistently portrayed her life positively, ensuring Macie believed she had been doing well all these years without suffering.
Observing the bright sparkle in Fernanda’s eyes, Macie was convinced and felt a great relief. The burden she had carried on her heart was finally lifted, and she no longer fretted over her little granddaughter surviving alone.
Macie and Fernanda talked until the evening came. She was elderly, yet her voice maintained the softness and flow of water.
Fernanda mused that maybe someone like Macie had the patience to withstand her grandfather’s hot temper. Indeed, they had supported each other for many years.

Fernanda couldn’t help but wonder about the Cooper family’s fate if Robert had never come into their lives.
She had shared the events of the past two days with Cristian, including Macie’s death. Cristian offered his condolences.
Macie had left no inheritance except for an old house. Sarai suggested that the house should go to Toby, noting that he had paid off the debts incurred by the Cooper family’s factory in earlier years.
Jade tugged at her mother, dissatisfied with the decision.
She had no fondness for the small, run-down house. However, she had heard from her classmate that the area might soon be demolished, potentially increasing the house’s value significantly.
