“The house belonged to Mom, so I’ll hold onto the keys for now,” Toby stated calmly. “Let’s focus on arranging her funeral first. We can decide later whether to sell the house. Any future proceeds from this house will be evenly split among Mom’s four children. That’s fair, isn’t it?”
Jade interjected, “Uncle, you’ve got it wrong. It’s just you, my mom, and Aunt Sarai.”
“Hey, you forgot your Aunt Gracie,” Felipa reminded her daughter.
“Aunt Gracie? But she’s dead.” Jade scoffed, rolling her eyes. “And she was the cause of so much trouble in our family. Why should she get anything?!”
“Jade!” Felipa scolded sharply. “Watch your words!”
Felipa then gave Fernanda an apologetic smile. “Don’t mind her, Fernanda. Jade didn’t mean it.”
Toby gave Jade a stern look and continued, “Gracie is gone, but Fernanda is here in her stead. Both are members of our Cooper family, so the property must be shared with them as well.”
