Cristian nodded in agreement.

As Fernanda stepped out of the car, Cristian promised, “I’ll definitely visit your family this evening.”

Cristian pulled up outside Dawn Villas. Fernanda stepped out, watching as his car disappeared down the road.

The estate roads were neatly cleared, but snow clung to the lawns and treetops, turning everything into a shimmering white landscape.

She stood at the entrance, staring at the Morgan family villa. Toby’s words echoed in her mind—the house belonged to Gracie.

So, this was her mother’s home. Hers, too.

Yet inside, some irritating people filled the space with laughter while she stood outside, feeling unwelcome. The irony was painful.

Her phone rang, breaking her thoughts.

Fernanda glanced down—Robert.

That was new. He was the one calling her?

Stepping aside, she answered but didn’t say anything.

“Fernanda, where are you?” His voice was softer than she expected. “Come home for dinner tonight, okay? I’ve missed you so much.”

Fernanda almost laughed. Now he missed her? What was this—father-daughter telepathy?

Here she was—standing right at the doorstep.

“I heard you came back from Macie’s, but you didn’t come home,” he said. “This is still your home. Christmas is coming up. Let’s sit down and plan it together.”

As far as excuses went, this one was weak.

Fernanda glanced at her boots, now speckled with melting snow. She lifted her foot and shook off the mud.

“No matter what’s happened before, we’re still family,” Robert continued. “Fernanda, you’ll always be my daughter.”

Fernanda had no interest in Robert’s attempts to tug at family ties. Just listening to him was giving her a headache.

She ended the call. A second later, the phone buzzed again—Robert, probably confused by her silence.

She declined and climbed the steps.

The doorbell chimed. A servant answered almost instantly. “Fernanda is back,” they announced.

Fernanda gave a small nod and stepped inside.
