Chapter 971:

Nimbus’s last message appeared on the screen. “If you’re still unsure, ask her yourself.”

Kevin grabbed his jacket from the sofa and hurried out the door. As he crossed the living room, his foot landed on something unexpected—a glass bottle. It rolled away, rattling across the floor before disappearing under the sofa.

Robert lay sprawled across it, snoring loudly. The coffee table was a disaster, cluttered with half-eaten food that gave off a sour smell. Empty beer bottles were scattered around, some standing upright while others had tipped over. Dried wine stains covered the floor.

Kevin grabbed two trash bags and started cleaning. He tossed the food containers and beer bottles, then went to the bedroom to grab a blanket. After draping it over Robert, who was still passed out on the sofa, he quietly stepped out of the house.

A sharp gust of wind hit him as soon as he stepped outside. He zipped up his down jacket and kept walking.

He flagged down a taxi and gave the driver the address of Fernanda’s gaming studio.

Kevin wasn’t sure why he had chosen to go there, but something pushed him forward.

He needed to know where he stood with her.

Her opinion mattered to him more than he wanted to admit.

Somewhere deep down, he hoped she was still the steady presence in his life. That even with everything falling apart—his family, his future—some things hadn’t changed.

Fernanda logged out of the game and made her way to the studio. She knew Kevin would be there. As his sister, she wanted to show her support.

By evening, the studio was alive with energy. Neal and the others were deep in training, sharpening their skills for the upcoming national league.

Fernanda hadn’t expected to see Jeff.

He had already graduated. According to Sloane, he was working at his family’s company, starting from the ground up without any special treatment. The Norris family was determined to train him properly, making sure he climbed the corporate ladder one step at a time.

Jeff noticed Fernanda and greeted her with a smile. “I drove Sloane here. I’m just waiting for her so we can head back together later.”

Fernanda glanced through the French window. Sloane was curled up in her chair, wearing a playful headset with pink cat ears. Her lips moved quickly as she gave rapid-fire commands.

Fernanda settled onto the sofa across from Jeff.

“How have you been?” Jeff asked, his voice slow, as if he wasn’t sure how to word it. He hesitated for a moment, searching for the right way to phrase his concern.

But when he noticed how radiant she looked, he realized she hadn’t been shaken by recent events. So, he asked more directly.

Fernanda chuckled. “You saw the news. It wasn’t me who got into trouble, and it definitely wasn’t me who ended up losing anything.”
