Chapter 988:

So, it seemed her hunch was right after all. This man was, in fact, a fan of Rose.

Fernanda gave a sincere nod. “I understand. I’ll be more mindful in the future.”

Content with her response, the man let out a derisive snort, stuffed his hands into his pockets, and strutted away as if he’d just won some grand victory.

Curran turned to Fernanda, confusion written all over his face. “Fernanda, what’s going on with you today? This isn’t like you.”

“That man is completely self-absorbed and unwilling to listen to reason,” she replied calmly. “Arguing with someone like that is pointless. It’s easier to just play along, let them feel like they’ve won, and save yourself the headache.”

While Curran understood the practicality of her approach, he couldn’t help but feel surprised by Fernanda’s levelheadedness.

Most young people would have been far more reactive in such a situation.

When they reached the fourth floor, the auction was already underway. Items were being showcased one by one on the stage, while bidders enthusiastically placed their offers from the seats below.

Fernanda helped Curran find a spot, and the two of them settled in to watch the proceedings.

Painting after painting was displayed, but none managed to spark Curran’s interest.

Not long after, Bobby arrived—this time with an older woman by his side.

She was dressed in a rich purple gown beneath a beige lamb wool coat, paired with black low-heeled shoes. Around her neck hung a jade-green agate necklace, which matched the elegant earrings she wore.

Her salt-and-pepper hair was meticulously styled and pinned back, with not a strand out of place. She carried herself with an undeniable grace and timeless sophistication.

Bobby pulled out a chair for the woman and took the seat beside her, his every move marked by deference and respect.

Naturally, Fernanda noticed her immediately. And, as expected, so did Curran.

From the moment she entered, Curran’s eyes had been drawn to her, his attention fixed.

The woman, however, gave him only the briefest of glances before focusing entirely on the paintings being displayed.

Soon, the first half of the auction came to a close. The host announced a half-hour intermission before the event would resume. As the room buzzed with movement, Bobby quickly made his way over to Curran, pulling him to sit closer to the elderly woman.

Curran, uncharacteristically uneasy, followed Bobby’s lead. His nerves were palpable as he swallowed hard and took the seat beside the older woman.

Fernanda observed the scene and began piecing things together. She glanced at Bobby, silently asking for confirmation of her suspicion. Sure enough, Bobby leaned over and said, “That’s my grandmother.”
