Chapter 739
Lavinia obviously wasn't going to drink herself to death. After forcing down one bottle, she feigned intense intoxication and collapsed dramatically into Ellison's arms. He hurriedly caught her and stopped her from reaching for another bottle.
"Your stomach can't handle this much alcohol," he scolded softly.
Lavinia whimpered, "But Marin... she still won't forgive me..."
"She already forgave you."
"Really?"
"Yeah."
"Ellison, when did I ever say I forgave her?" Marin demanded, her voice like ice.
Ellison let out a heavy sigh. "I forgave her on your behalf."
"What gave you the right?"
"The fact that I'm your husband and your boss!"
"So, is it my husband or my boss forcing me to forgive her?"
Ellison paused for a moment. "From a corporate standpoint, I believe Lavinia is more than capable of handling her responsibilities, so I won't allow someone to abuse their power to fire a hardworking young employee. And as your husband, I expect my wife to be a reasonable, broad-minded woman who can be tolerant of the people around me."
Marin stood up. Looking down at the man who was tightly holding another woman right in front of her face, her voice was laced with utter disappointment. "Ellison, you are a terrible boss, and an even worse husband. I'm quitting, and I'm divorcing you."
Hearing Marin genuinely bring up divorce caught Ellison completely off guard. "Do you... do you have any idea what you're saying?"
"I'm divorcing you."
Seeing the absolute resolve in Marin's eyes, panic finally flickered across Ellison's face.
"I refuse! There is absolutely nothing wrong with our marriage, and I have never done anything to betray you! You have no grounds for a divorce! I won't agree to it. Don't even think about it!"
"If you won't sign, I'll sue you. I've already made my decision."
Marin remained perfectly calm. Ignoring Ellison's outrage, she grabbed Penelope's hand and walked right out of her own home.
Marin had intended to drive Penelope back to her hotel, but Penelope sat down on a bench outside the apartment building.
"Are you seriously going to divorce him?"
Marin gave a bitter smile. "I'd have to be blind not to see the filthy little game he and Lavinia are playing."
"So it wasn't just heat-of-the-moment anger?"
"I refuse to tolerate trash in my life. Plus, if I backed down this time, Lavinia would think she won. I'm too tired to play her petty games. It's pointless. I'd rather spend that time writing a few strings of code."
Marin had her pride. Once Ellison threw away his respect for her, their relationship was dead in the water.
"But if you really push for a divorce, he's definitely going to drag it out. And when it comes to dividing assets, he'll make sure you walk away with the short end of the stick."
"I really don't care."
"You're not a saint who lives on air. Food, clothes, housing-everything costs money. And having money guarantees a more comfortable life. That's just a fact. Besides, he's the one cheating. Are you really going to ou really going to let him kick you to the curb with nothing?"
"I just don't want to deal with him anymore."
Penelope's eyes darted thoughtfully before settling on Marin's apartment window. Her gaze darkened.
"What do you think those two are doing right now?"

Five minutes later, Marin quietly unlocked the front door. Penelope shadowed her as they slipped silently inside. The living room and dining area were completely deserted and dead silent They exchanged a glance, and crept toward the guest bedroom. As they got closer, the sounds became unmistakable.
"Ellison, you're hurting me."
"Where does it hurt? Let me see."
"Lower..."
The voices paused for a brief moment, followed by a breathless gasp from Lavinia.
When they reached the doorway, Marin and Penelope had a clear, unobstructed view of the two tangled bodies on the bed. The woman was putting up a half- hearted token resistance, while the man was ravaging her with desperate urgency.
"Marin is ridiculous. A great guy like you and she doesn't even know how to appreciate it. She's just clicking away at her keyboard all day like you don't even exist And she actually had the nerve to demand a divorce earlier. She thinks she's so special." Cóntent
