Chapter 760
"It's bitter! It tastes horrible!" Kristin insisted.
Hamilton knew she was being deliberately difficult, but he didn't get angry. He simply walked back into the kitchen, brought out the other two dishes he had prepared, and placed them right in front of her.
"Try these two. If they're bitter too, then my cooking really is terrible, and I'll hire a private chef to teach me tomorrow. But let me tell you a secret-I'm actually incredibly smart and a very fast learner. I'll be making you amazing meals in no time."
Despite Hamilton's desperate attempts to win her over, Kristin remained completely unfazed.
"I will never like your food."
"Why not?"
"Because I hate you! Now get out of our house! My mom doesn't like you either!"
Even at those harsh words, Hamilton merely smiled.
"That's alright. Once I start coming around more often, you'll learn to like me."
"No, I won't! The only one I like is Marico!"
Knowing that the 'Marico' she was referring to was Marico Stapleton, Hamilton's smile faltered slightly.
"Kristin, this Marico guy isn't a good person. He's the whole reason your mom and I had to separate. You should hate him just as much as I do."
"Marico isn't bad at all! You're the one who's bad!"
Hamilton's smile was hanging by a thread. Natalie knew his temper all too well; she quickly pulled Kristin into her arms, terrified that he might snap and get physical.
"It's fine," Hamilton took a deep breath. "When you're a little older, you'll understand who truly treats you well."
With that, Hamilton scooped a bowl of rice for Kristin and told Natalie to set her back in her chair.
"I'll feed her. You go ahead and eat."
Kristin scowled. "I'm six years old! I don't need anyone to feed me!"
"Such a good girl. Here, let me get you some food."
Acting as if he wasn't bothered in the slightest, Hamilton placed food into Kristin's bowl and then did the same for Natalie.
Natalie didn't want to push him over the edge—especially since it was just her and her daughter in the house with him.
"Go ahead and eat, Kristin."
Even though her mother gave her permission, Kristin remained stubbornly reluctant, chewing her food with a prominent pout.
Natalie refused to eat. She simply pushed her bowl and utensils away.
Hamilton gave her a brief glance but said nothing as he began eating his own food.
"You know, during our first year of marriage, I actually cooked a meal once. You had been shooting on location for over a month, and ↳ wanted to surprise you. I left the office early, bought groceries, and tried to cook. But I burned the rice and dumped way too much salt in the food. I was so furious with
myself, I didn't want to ruin your good mood when you got home, so right before you walked through the door, I threw everything in the trash and scrubbed the kitchen spotless."
As Hamilton ate and reminisced, Natalie couldn't even muster the energy to care about the past.
"All I know is that the Hamilton from
back then knew when to let thing
go. He
ouldn't waste his time on pathetic harassment like this."
"I told you, I have no other choice. This is the only way."
"We're divorced, and I don't love you anymore."
"I accept that. But I also hope you can process your feelings, forget the ugliness of the past, and fa in loveta,
with me again. I'm not giving you a deadline, because I know it will
happen eventually."
"That is never going to happen."
"We'll see about that."
Natalie was completely overwhelmed with exhaustion. But right at that moment, someone started violently pounding on the door.
They didn't bother with the doorbell just heavy, frantic banging. It had to be Marico.
Natalie immediately stood up to answer it, but Hamilton slammed his fork down on the table.
"Don't open the door!"
