Penelope's eyes went wide. "So Ellison tried to kill her!"

"Yes. She was on the sidewalk. Most people managed to dive out of the way, including Marin, but an elderly woman wasn't fast enough. She died on the scene."

Penelope sharply inhaled.

Ellison had completely lost his mind. No wonder Marin looked so exhausted and broken—she had barely survived a nightmare.

"And they still haven't caught him. That means Marin could still be in danger."

Penelope nodded firmly. "Since she's working for us now, we have to guarantee her safety."

After Harold left, Penelope immediately called Timothy, summarizing the terrifying situation and ordering him to stay on high alert.

"Understood. Don't worry, I've got this."

Right before quitting time, Theodore called, asking her out for dinner.

"What about the three kids?"

"I am asking you on a date. Try not to make everything about the kids for one night?"

Penelope checked herself. She was the one who suggested they start over, date properly, and not rush into remarrying. She couldn't exactly go back on her own terms.

"Alright. Pick me up."

In a fantastic mood, Penelope wrapped up her tasks, touched up her makeup to look a bit more glamorous, and happily headed out.

In the elevator, a few female colleagues complimented her look, asking if she had a hot date.

"I sure do," Penelope admitted proudly.

Everyone at the office knew she had been married to Theodore Stapleton, but they also knew they were officially divorced. So her seeing a new man wasn't exactly scandalous.

When she walked out of the lobby, Theodore's imposing Range Rover was waiting by the curb.

One of the women spotted the luxury vehicle and asked who was inside.

Penelope's eyes sparkled. "My boyfriend."

Basking in their envious stares, she slipped into the passenger seat.

Theodore glanced over, raising an eyebrow at her sly grin. "What are you up to?"

"They think I'm seeing a new man."

"And?"

"How do you think they feel about me running my ex-husband's company while parading around with a new guy?"

"How do they feel?"

"That my skills in manipulating men are absolutely legendary!"

Theodore deadpanned. "I should have stayed in the car."

"No way. I want to soak up their admiration for a few more days."

Their destination was an exclusive, dimly lit steakhouse. Sitting across from her in a sleek black dress shirt, Theodore exuded a lazy yet utterly dominant aura. With his long fingers casually resting on the tableche looked like a king of the underworld, holding absolute power.

Penelope was always captivated by his presence and his devastating good looks. Sometimes she still couldn't believe this man belonged to her, and loved her so fiercely

Whenever she thought about how she had once willingly given him up, she wanted

to kick herself.

"This

our very first official

date." Penelope genuinely couldnret

recall them

ever going on a real date

before they got married content

Theodore raised an eyebrow. "Is it?"

"It is. I completely skipped the fun dating phase and just married you."

"Feeling cheated?"

"Severely."

Theodore smirked. "Then from now on, whenever we go on a date, we won't go home. We'll book a hotel room."

Penelope clicked her tongue. "You are terribly inappropriate. Trying to drag a girl to a hotel on the first date? Hmph!"
