The Unlucky Turn by Mark Twain 150
If Zeus loved tattling, let him tattle. She had already blocked everyone from the Sloan family anyway. Even if they wanted to make a scene, they couldn’t reach her.
She turned to walk into the hospital, throwing a sentence over her shoulder without looking back. “However, you’d best check first if he can even contact me.”
What did she mean by that? Zeus froze in place. By the time he reacted, Leilani’s figure had already disappeared into the flow of people in the hospital lobby.
Following the hospital signs, Leilani arrived at the end of the corridor on the top floor. In front of her was a heavy metal door, the plaque reading: [Classified Archives].
She took out an ID badge and a proof of identity signed personally by Mr. Dillon from her pocket. The document bore a bright red seal, and the signature line read: [Global Special Medical Team].
The guard at the door took the proof, verified it carefully, and his expression immediately turned respectful. “Miss, please enter.”
The lock clicked open, and Leilani pushed the door open and entered.
She didn’t notice that not far behind her, Zeus stood at the corner, eyes wide with shock as he watched her present the proof and enter. He had been silently following her since she left him. After all, this was where Zeus worked. Although he lost her initially, he quickly found her again after asking around.
Zeus stared intently at the words on the metal door, unable to believe it. Classified Archives! That was the hospital’s highest-level confidential database. Even doctors at the vice-director level didn’t have the authority to enter at will! How did Leilani… have access?
Zeus walked quickly to the nurses’ station near the archives and asked in a low voice, “Lila, do you know whose clearance that girl just used?”
One had to register at the nurses’ station before entering the archives. Since Zeus was a young attending physician, handsome, and usually gentle, he had a good relationship with many nurses.
Lila looked up, saw it was Zeus, and widened her eyes in surprise. Hearing his question, she didn’t hesitate to show him the logbook. The name written there was prominently “Floyd Dillon.”
Following Mr. Dillon’s instructions, Leilani hadn’t registered her own name, but his.
Zeus stared blankly at the bold handwriting. The name felt familiar, but he couldn’t place it immediately.

Seeing his reaction, Lila reminded him, “Dr. Sloan, did you forget? This Floyd Dillon is from the Global Special Medical Team. He’s also the Director of the Capital Military Hospital. He came to our hospital for an exchange last time, and you even spoke with him. How could you forget? I don’t know what that girl’s relationship is to him, but she actually managed to get Mr. Dillon’s badge.”
Zeus’s face changed as he remembered. Global Special Medical Team… That was the world’s premier medical team, specializing in rare diseases and difficult cases. Everyone on that team was a top expert in the industry! He had applied to join several times, but never received a response.
Leilani, a woman who had been to prison, how could she be connected to someone like
that?
He clenched his fists, staring
gloomily at the archive door, deciding to wait right there for
her to come out and demand an explanation.
