The Unlucky Turn by Mark Twain 149
It made sense. In their minds, Leilani was just a cheap country bumpkin. If not for a pretty face, how could she possibly associate with celebrities and aristocrats?
Zeus walked down the steps to stand in front of her, his voice lowered but every word laced with venom. “What is your relationship with him? You looked so intimate just now. Did you go and become someone’s mistress?”
Zeus remembered that Marlon had just married the daughter of the Lawsons not long ago. Leilani acting so close to him-what was she if not the other woman?
The more Zeus thought about it, the more he felt this was the truth. His look at Leilani became increasingly filled with disdain and mackery.
“When did you climb onto the Watsons? Do you know he’s already married? Intervening in someone else’s relationship? How cheap!”
Sure enough, a trashy girl raised in the countryside.
Leilani chuckled, completely filtering out his attacks, showing no anger whatsoever. Her gaze toward Zeus was cold and sarcastic. “Since when are you so interested in my private life? And didn’t you know? I cut ties with you long ago. Whether I’m a mistress or not has nothing to do with you. Who are you to stand here and accuse me?”
Zeus’s jaw tightened, the gaze behind his lenses growing sharper. “Leilani, you know the Watsons’ background. He’s not sincere about you; he’ll just play with you and toss you aside. Don’t disgrace the Sloan family for money.”
It was the same repetitive nonsense all day long. Leilani’s ears were callousing over; there was nothing new. Her eyes flickered with a hint of amusement as she decided to toy with Zeus. She curled her lips, her tone airy. “Who said I’m doing it for money?”
She leaned forward slightly, lowering her voice, emphasizing each word: “I’m doing it for love. After all, didn’t your dearest sister Tamara steal my fiancé under the banner of true love back then? I learned it all from her. What? If Tamara can do it, why can’t I?”
Technically, Milford should have been her fiancé. She was the true daughter of the Sloan family. Hadn’t Tamara only become the Sherwoods’ future daughter-in-law after framing her and sending her to prison?
Leilani’s words slapped Zeus across the face. His pupils shrank, and his face turned ashen instantly. “You!”
He felt Leilani was simply hopeless. How could she compare herself to Tamara? He suddenly grabbed her wrist, his grip hard enough to nearly crush her bone. “How could the Sloan family raise something as shameless as you!”
Leilani let him hold her, her expression unchanged, even carrying a hint of mockery. “Zeus,

such a strong reaction… are you jealous? No need to be jealous of me. Actually, men can sell themselves too. Besides, you’re so good-looking. Maybe you wouldn’t even have to be a side piece; you could be someone’s trophy husband directly.”
Zeus trembled with rage; his orientation was perfectly normal. Leilani’s words were extremely insulting. His voice was squeezed through his teeth. “I will tell Dad and let him discipline you properly!”
Leilani laughed aloud, slowly pulling her hand back. “Whatever.”
