The Unlucky Turn by Mark Twain 275
She paused, a playful glint flashing in her eyes. “I wonder what Mr. Sherwood’s wedding will look like.”
Milford stared at her, trying to read some emotion on her face, but Leilani remained perfectly indifferent, as if she were truly just attending an ordinary banquet. He didn’t see the expression he was hoping for.
Milford suppressed the complicated, indescribable emotions in his heart. He said in a low voice, “True. You are Tamara’s sister. You ought to come to our wedding. I will also… very much welcome your arrival when the time comes.”
Leilani checked the time and stood up. “Alright, it looks like you still have discharge procedures to handle. I won’t hold you up. I’m leaving.”
Seeing Leilani about to leave, Yvonne quickly stood up. “Leilani, remember what you promised me! Don’t forget!”
“I won’t.” Leilani turned and left, her figure retreating decisively.
Watching her back, Yvonne couldn’t help but sigh internally. Compared to Tamara’s hypocritical gentleness, Leilani’s cool and reliable personality was actually much more reassuring.
Yvonne glanced at her brother’s complex expression and couldn’t help but whisper. “Milford, why did you have to invite Leilani? You know the relationship between Leilani and Tamara. It’ll be so awkward if Leilani goes…”
Milford withdrew his gaze, his tone calm. “She said she would come.”
Yvonne pouted. “But Leilani was obviously just being polite!”
Milford didn’t answer. instead, he turned and began pushing her wheelchair. “Let’s go. It’s time to go home.”
Yvonne sighed and didn’t say anything more.
Milford handled the discharge paperwork for Yvonne and took her back to the Sherwood residence.
Meanwhile, Tamara, carrying a bag with exquisite wedding invitations and a tuxedo catalog, walked into the Sherwood villa in her high heels.
Last time, she and Carola had mainly settled on her main wedding gown. This time, she had brought the suit options prepared for Milford.
She wore a sweet smile on her face, calculating how she would coax Milford into going to the bridal shop with her later. She felt it was a regret that Milford hadn’t seen her try on the wedding dress the first time.
However, the moment she stepped into the living room, her smile froze on her face.
Yvonne was sitting on the sofa, holding a cup of coffee. Hearing footsteps, she looked up.
Their eyes met, and Tamara’s fingertips dug sharply into the paper bag she was holding.

When did Yvonne get discharged?
Why hadn’t anyone notified her?
Did Yvonne recover her memory?
Tamara forced down the panic rising in her chest and squeezed out a gentle smile. “Yvonne? You… got discharged? When did this happen? Why didn’t Milford tell me? Congratulations.”
Yvonne gave her a cold glance. “Mmh, I just got back.”
Tamara took a few steps closer, her tone concerned but laced with probing intent. “How is your recovery coming along? Your memory… any progress?”
Yvonne set down her cup and looked at her with a faint, unreadable smile. “Why? Are you very concerned about whether I remember the past?”
Tamara’s breath hitched, and she quickly shook her head. “Of course not! I’m just worried about you…”
“Don’t worry, I haven’t remembered yet.” Yvonne interrupted her, her gaze sharp. “But the doctor said I’m recovering very well. Maybe one day, I’ll suddenly remember everything.”
Tamara, already feeling guilty, broke out in a cold sweat upon hearing Yvonne’s words. The smile on her face was almost impossible to maintain.
