The Unlucky Turn by Mark Twain 36
“I didn’t believe it at first, but now… Leilani, please don’t go down the wrong path!”
She hesitated, her eyes glancing meaningfully at Callahan.

Leilani rolled her eyes. She sneered and put down her cutlery. “Tamara, don’t you get tired of acting all day?”
Even if Tamara wasn’t tired, Leilani was tired for her.
Tamara’s eyes reddened. “Leilani, how can you say that about me? I’m just concerned about you…”
“Concerned about me?” Leilani looked up, her gaze like a knife. “Are you concerned about me, or the man beside me?”
Her intentions exposed, Tamara’s face stiffened.
Since Leilani had mentioned him, Callahan finally looked up. His gaze was sharp as a blade, piercing straight through Tamara. “Is the performance over?”
Tamara stumbled back half a step, shaken by his look. Pretending not to understand, she tried to defend herself. “I-I wasn’t performing…”
Callahan didn’t want to hear her explanation. He raised his hand and pressed the service bell.
The restaurant manager walked over quickly, respectful. “Mr. Langley, do you have any instructions?”
Callahan’s tone was indifferent. “Please escort her out. She is not permitted to step foot in
this restaurant in the future.”
The manager nodded. “Yes.”
Tamara panicked completely. “Wait! What gives you the right!”
The manager signaled the security guards with a cold face. “Miss, please leave.”
Tamara stared at Callahan, her eyes full of disbelief. “You… You are Callahan from the Langley Group?”
No one paid attention to her shock. Seeing Tamara not moving, the manager ordered the security directly, “Take her out.”
Carola, who had been waiting outside, was dumbfounded to see Tamara being “escorted” out by security. She tugged at Tamara’s sleeve and whispered, “Tamara, what… what happened?”
Tamara looked wretched being “invited” out like this. She could feel the gazes of people passing by. Trembling with rage, she grabbed the manager’s sleeve. “Do you know who I

am? How dare you treat me like this?”
The manager pulled his arm back expressionlessly. “Ms. Sloan, the Langley family’s property is not a place where you can act wildly.”
Tamara felt like she had been struck by lightning, her face turning instantly pale. She finally accepted the information.
So she hadn’t heard wrong. Callahan, the rumored ruthless heir of the Langley family who kept away from women, was on a date with Leilani?
Carola was also stunned, stammering, “Leilani she… how could she climb up to the Langley family?”
Tamara dug her fingernails deep into her palms, her eyes filled with jealousy and hatred. “Impossible. She must have used some dirty means!”
Inside the restaurant, peace returned.
Leilani looked at Callahan, revealing a rare trace of surprise. “You sure wield a lot of power, Mr. Langley.”
Callahan wiped his hands methodically. “It was noisy.”
Leilani chuckled lightly. “Thank you.”
“No need.” He looked up, his eyes deep. “I just don’t like people chattering while I eat.”
Leilani didn’t speak again, but her impression of him subtly shifted.
Considering this wasn’t the first time the Sloan family had caused trouble for her, he asked, “Was that your sister just now?”
Hearing Tamara call Leilani “Sister,” Callahan had a rough idea of her relationship with the Sloan family.
“She used to be.”
“Not anymore?”
“Now,” Leilani said calmly, “she is an enemy.”
If Tamara had merely stolen the affection of the Sloan family, Leilani wouldn’t be so resentful. But Tamara had harmed Yvonne and incited the family to make Leilani take the fall, costing her four years of her youth in prison.
