The Unlucky Turn by Mark Twain 378
It turned out that earlier, as soon as Judie, Leilani, and Yvonne had stepped out, Judie made a call directly to her father.
Judie wasn’t the type to swallow her grievances silently. She sat in the back of the black. Rolls-Royce, legs crossed, impatiently tapping her fingers against the edge of the window. Holding her phone to her ear, she pursed her red lips, her eyes full of irritation.
The moment the call connected, Judie dragged out her vowels, her voice sounding both spoiled and demanding as she poured out her grievances. “Dad! Your daughter was publicly humiliated today!”
On the other end of the line, Donovan Fulton was in the middle of a meeting. Hearing his precious daughter’s tone, he immediately raised a hand to pause the meeting and walked to the window. His voice softened instantly. “What’s wrong, Judie? Didn’t you go to a concert with your friends today? Did someone bully you?”
Judie huffed. “Who else could it be? It was that guy, Clive Sloan!”
She laid out the story with dramatic flair. “Didn’t you give me tickets for Box 1? I thought I’d go have some fun with my friends. But when Clive was doing the fan interaction lottery on stage, the big screen cut to us. In front of tens of thousands of people, he just looked cold and said, ‘Why is it you?’ Then, without even an explanation, he had the camera cut away to someone else!”
Judie got angrier as she spoke, her voice rising. “Dad, you know how many people were at that concert. What if someone recorded it and posted it online, claiming we snuck in? Your daughter doesn’t want to be called a desperate clout-chaser! Dad, you have to be the judge here! When have I ever been treated like this?”
Listening to the injustice his daughter suffered, Donovan’s brow furrowed, and a cold glint appeared in his eyes. He knew his daughter well. Although Judie had been spoiled growing up, she wasn’t the type to throw tantrums and bully others without cause. If she was this angry, it meant Clive had indeed crossed a line.
Clive? Donovan recalled that this was the popular young idol from the entertainment company they had recently invested in.
Seeing his daughter so upset, Donovan felt a surge of anger, but he first had to soothe Judie. “Don’t worry, sweetheart. Calm down first; getting angry is bad for your health. Dad knows about this now. I will absolutely get justice for you. No one gets to bully my precious daughter!”
Judie instantly teared up and whined, “Daddy, you’re the best. You’re the only one who really loves me!”
Thinking of Tamara, Judie figured that since she was already complaining, she might as well

go all the way. So, she told Donovan about how Tamara and Carola had wronged them
earlier.
“And another thing! Dad, let me tell you, Clive’s sister Tamara is no angel either. She and her lackey deliberately brought security over to chase us out today, claiming we were thieves!”
Donovan’s expression darkened completely. Originally, hearing about the screen snub, he had only intended to withdraw capital. But now, hearing that Clive’s sister had accused his daughter of being a thief, a fiery protectiveness ignited within him.
“Judie, don’t worry.” His voice was low, carrying undeniable authority. “Dad will handle this for you.”
