The Unlucky Turn by Mark Twain 89
“Have a pleasant flight.”
“Thank you.” Leilani took the water, her breathing steady as if the sprint just now hadn’t happened.
Only after sitting in her seat and fastening her seatbelt did Leilani close her eyes briefly. The scene in the stall surfaced in her mind uncontrollably. The man’s hot breath, the hand gripping her waist, and those thin lips almost touching her neck…
Leilani snapped her eyes open, her fingers unconsciously tightening around the water bottle.
It was just an act. She reminded herself coldly. The situation was urgent, and Callahan did that to mislead the thugs. Now that the danger was over, there was no need for her to dwell
on it.
Taking a deep breath, Leilani’s expression returned to calm, as if that moment of
unnaturalness had never existed.
The plane taxied slowly, and outside the window, the morning light of Zamora grew brighter. Leilani put on an eye mask and leaned back. Her breathing gradually steadied.
Just as Leilani disappeared from the boarding gate, hurried footsteps echoed from the end
of the corridor.
“Mr. Langley!” His assistant arrived with several bodyguards, a thin layer of sweat on his forehead. “Are you alright?”
Callahan withdrew his gaze, his expression returning to its cold demeanor. “I’m fine, just a graze. Is it clear who attacked us?”
The assistant lowered his voice. “It was ‘Red Snake’s’ men. The same group that attacked
Arnold last time.”
Callahan’s eyes darkened, a chill flashing through them.
As expected! These people were backed by the Langley Group’s competitors, constantly trying to sabotage the cooperation between the Langley Group and the Prime Minister of Zamora. The attack on Arnold was a carefully planned assassination, but Arnold had desperately protected Callahan, allowing the contract to proceed. Now that Arnold was saved and the contract officially signed, the enemy had become desperate enough to strike directly at the airport.
“They calculated that you were returning today and wanted to manufacture an ‘accident,” the assistant said tensely. “If not for that young lady…”

Callahan didn’t speak, but his fingers tightened slightly. If Leilani hadn’t disrupted their plan today, he would be gravely injured, if not dead.
Thinking of those extremely calm eyes and her decisive skill with the needles, his
appreciation and gratitude for Leilani became clearer.
But the airport wasn’t the place to discuss this. The group was still lingering, so the priority was to board the plane and leave Zamora. Only back home would they be truly safe; their
reach didn’t extend that far.
The assistant and bodyguards escorted Callahan onto the private jet. Five minutes later, Callahan leaned back in the leather seat as the private plane flew smoothly through the
clouds.
The assistant hurried over with the accompanying doctor, whispering, “Mr. Langley, let the doctor check your wound again.”
Although Mr. Langley hadn’t complained, the young lady was an amateur, so it was better to have medical professionals check it.
The doctor stepped forward respectfully and carefully lifted the bandage, only to freeze when he saw the wrapping technique. “Um…” The doctor was surprised by the bandaging method. “Mr. Langley’s wound is treated very professionally. The hemostasis and bandaging are perfect; there’s no need to redo it.”
Callahan’s eyes shifted slightly as he looked down at the bandage.
