The Unlucky Turn by Mark Twain 88
Just then, Callahan lowered his head, his thin lips close to her ear, his voice pressed extremely low. “Don’t be afraid. Play along.”
Before she could react, Callahan clamped one hand around her waist and propped the other by her ear, enveloping her completely.
“You!” Leilani started to speak, but Callahan leaned down, his lips almost touching the side of her neck. His hot breath sprayed on her skin, provoking a subtle shiver.
“Shh.” His voice was husky, carrying a suggestive undertone. “They’re watching.”
Through the gap under the stall door, they could clearly see a pair of black leather boots stop.
Leilani understood instantly. She quietly put away the silver needles and instead wrapped her arms around Callahan’s neck. Her fingertips lightly brushed the back of his neck, and she deliberately softened her voice, faking intimacy, “Be gentle.”
Callahan’s Adam’s apple bobbed, his eyes darkening.
Outside, the thug listened suspiciously to the movement inside and was about to kick the door when his companion scoffed and pulled him back, whispering in his ear. “Don’t bother. You know what kind of person Callahan is. He avoids women; how could he be hooking up in a toilet?”
It was clearly just an impatient couple finding a place to get it on.
“True,” the man spat. “Let’s look elsewhere!”
The footsteps gradually faded away.
Inside the stall, the air seemed to solidify. Leilani quickly let go and stepped back to create distance, her expression returning to calm. “They’re gone.”
Callahan straightened up, slowly adjusting his cuffs, but his eyes held a look of amusement. “Your reaction was fast…”
Leilani didn’t reply. After listening to ensure it was safe outside, she pushed open the stall door. “Leave now, while we can.”
However, Callahan suddenly reached out to block her. “Wait.” His gaze was deep as it fell on her face. “You haven’t answered my question.”
“What question?”
“Why do you know medicine?” He pressed step by step. “And, who exactly are you?”
Leilani looked up at him and suddenly smirked. “If you’re so curious, Mr. Langley, why don’t

you investigate it yourself after returning home?”
Callahan narrowed his eyes. “What do you mean?”
Leilani didn’t elaborate, having no time to explain. Glancing at her watch, she saw only eight minutes remained until boarding closed. Her heart tightened. The plane was about to take
off!
Without a word, she turned and ran, her pace so fast she almost created a breeze.
Callahan was stunned, instinctively wanting to call out, “Wait!”
But she didn’t even look back. Her retreating figure was crisp and decisive, disappearing around the corner in the blink of an eye.
He stared in the direction she left, the corners of his lips lifting imperceptibly. Since meeting her, this woman had been calm, intelligent, and decisive in every situation-even a bit cold. Her personality was vastly different from most women he encountered. But precisely… that personality made him feel inexplicably intrigued.
He touched the bandage on his shoulder. Leilani’s bandaging technique was too professional for an ordinary person. Thinking of her needle-throwing skill and her instant adaptability in the stall, he felt this woman was a complete mystery.
Callahan suddenly frowned in annoyance. He had forgotten to ask for Leilani’s contact information again.
Meanwhile, Leilani sprinted all the way, passed through security, and rushed to the boarding gate in the final minute.
Seeing her haste, a flight attendant thoughtfully handed her a bottle of cold water. “Ma’am, the plane will take off in one minute. Please give me your boarding pass and take your seat. Watch your step.”
