Aubrey’s lips were cold and soft. A cool fragrance enveloped him. In that moment, Alpha Henry’s heart pounded, and his breathing stopped.
After their lips parted, his purple eyes stared at her without blinking, full of hope, as if he were looking at her with a light in his eyes. But she didn’t move. In that instant, the light in his eyes dimmed.
If Aubrey didn’t wake up, then for her safety, he would have to secretly send her away. As for what would happen after she left, what the Miguel family would face, what he would face… he couldn’t worry about any of that
anymore.
He slowly straightened up, his gaze gradually hardening with resolve.
“If you’re tired, sleep a little longer. I’m here. I won’t let anything happen to you.”
“…Not staying to keep me company?”
Aubrey’s faint, weak voice suddenly came, stunning Alpha Henry!
She slowly opened those eyes that seemed to hold the stars and asked again, “Where are you going, Alpha Henry?”
In that moment, Alpha Henry’s eyes suddenly reddened. He almost unthinkingly asked a foolish question.
“How did you wake up?”
Aubrey sighed. “Because… I can’t leave you alone…” That wasn’t her style.
Alpha Henry’s voice suddenly choked. His steely resolve seemed to shatter in front of her. He just wanted to pull her into his arms and never let go!
His hand clenched into a fist, released it, then clenched it again uncontrollably. And yet, his face bore a smile, as if he were completely relaxed.
“Aubrey, you’re really awake.”
Aubrey looked at him with amusement. “What else? Could it be fake?”
Alpha Henry couldn’t help but laugh too. He was in a wonderful mood, his eyes full of tender affection, practically glowing.

“So,” Aubrey looked at him, a bit challenging, “feeling brave now?”
“With you here, I fear nothing.”
Alpha Henry pinched her chin, declaring proudly, “I’m full of strength right now!”

His expression was proud, but Aubrey saw the dark circles under his eyes. He clearly hadn’t slept in a long time.
Aubrey narrowed her eyes, grabbed his hand, and pulled hard. Alpha Henry was immediately dragged onto the bed. She rolled over and pinned him.
“I already have an idea about conquering the side effects. I heard you watched over me for over ten hours. So, you sleep. It’s my turn to take charge!”
Alpha Henry smiled as he looked at her, and pretended to groan. “I want to sleep, too, but over ten hours have passed, and so many things are waiting for me…”
As he spoke, he reached up and tucked her hair behind her ear.
“Leave the outside matters to me. You can focus on your experiments without worrying. There are still over thirty hours. When this is all over, we’ll rest together.”
Seeing his serious expression, Aubrey stared for a long time and finally smiled.
“Fine.”
With that, she got up and off the bed.
After a near–death experience, she felt as if she had been completely reborn, brimming with life.
Her serum was effective. And the side effect wasn’t really a side effect; it was the serum’s way of rapidly repairing the body the virus had destroyed. It looked terrifying, but it didn’t actually harm the body. The problem was that the process was unbearable for most. The pain was so suffocating it could literally kill, so it was tricky.
But Alpha Henry had given her an idea. To eliminate the pain, she didn’t have to alter the serum itself. She could develop a supportive potion to be injected with the anti–viral serum. And for this, she was eyeing the painkiller she had previously designed for Alpha Henry. But if it was to be used for this, the painkiller still needed a lot of improvement.
Thinking of this, Aubrey paused. As Alpha Henry was leaving, she told him to call Xavier in.
She asked, “While I was in a coma, did you inject me with any painkillers?”
