Chapter 11:
The car raced toward the hospital with Ryder at the wheel, moving as fast as possible.
Throughout the journey, Rosalie’s face was pale, a clear sign of the anxiety and fear consuming her. Once they arrived, she didn’t hesitate. She dashed from the car toward the emergency room, completely unconcerned about her appearance.
As Ashton watched her run, a familiar feeling washed over him, as if he had witnessed this scenario before. Shaking off the déjà vu, he quickly followed her inside.
Near the emergency room, a maid from the Campbell family was pacing nervously. She quickly approached Rosalie.
“Miss Campbell, shortly after you left, your sister fell into a coma. She’s in there now,” she informed anxiously.
Before Rosalie could react, the emergency room doors swung open, and a young doctor stepped out.
Samuel Malone, spotting Rosalie, felt a thrill of excitement.
The eldest daughter of the renowned Campbell family was even more striking than he had anticipated. Introducing himself with a measure of eagerness, he said, “You must be Rosalie, the patient’s sister. I’m Dr. Samuel Malone, the lead physician here. It’s a pleasure to meet you. Your sister is in a critical state, but I assure you, I’m committed to doing everything possible to bring her back from the brink.”
As he spoke, Samuel removed his mask, offering a smile he hoped was charming. Aware of Rosalie’s beauty and her family’s prominence, he saw an opportunity in potentially advancing his career by winning her favor. However, Rosalie was too preoccupied with her younger sister’s condition to entertain a conversation.
Upon hearing that Samuel couldn’t promise a recovery, she turned desperately to Ashton.
“Dr. Baldwin, you’re our only hope now. Please, can you save my sister?” she pleaded.

Samuel, feeling overlooked, then turned his attention to Ashton, sizing him up with evident disdain.
“Dr. Baldwin?” he queried skeptically.
Samuel couldn’t hide his skepticism. Ashton appeared to be about his age. Samuel, despite his international education, wasn’t sure he could save Rosalie’s sister. Why did she seem so confident in this man’s skills?
Samuel addressed Rosalie with a patronizing smile. “Miss Campbell, I understand your distress. The situation is grave, but rest assured, we are exerting every effort. Please, let’s avoid any unnecessary complications.” He then shifted his focus to Ashton, his tone slightly condescending. “I don’t mean to belittle your abilities, but I’m the chief physician of this hospital. It’s rare for someone our age to be in charge of such critical medical decisions. I myself wouldn’t presume to guarantee a cure for Miss Campbell’s sister. What makes you think you’re qualified?”
Ashton, spotting the challenge in Samuel’s expression, dismissed it with a firm response. “Your title doesn’t solve problems. If you’re incapable, move aside. Time is of the essence!”
Samuel defensively gestured to his name tag and countered, “I earned this position because I’m qualified. What credentials do you bring to this emergency, Dr. Baldwin?”
Having been out of the medical field since marrying into the James family, Ashton indeed hadn’t practiced or carried his medical credentials in some time. However, his current lack of a license wasn’t a valid excuse for Samuel to hinder his attempts to help. Frustrated by Samuel’s obstruction in a critical situation, Ashton grew incensed.
“The patient’s welfare is the top priority. I have no time for this pettiness,” he declared.
With that, he pushed past Samuel and entered the emergency room.
Observing this, Samuel sneered, seeing an opportunity to escalate the situation, and quickly turned to Rosalie.
“Miss Campbell, observe! Is this how a physician behaves? I’ll have security escort him out!”
However, Rosalie’s response was not what Samuel anticipated.
Her expression icy, she warned, “Don’t you dare impede Dr. Baldwin. Should you interfere with Selena’s care, you’ll face the full force of the Campbell family’s influence.”
