Chapter 12:

Ashton burst into the emergency room with the urgency of a storm. His gaze immediately found Selena Campbell on the operating table.

Selena was barely holding on to life. Her breathing was barely perceptible. It seemed as though she could fade away at any second.

With his extensive medical background, Ashton quickly assessed that Selena’s vital signs were plummeting. There was no time to lose.

He dashed to the operating table and drew a Longevity Pill from his pocket. He had fortunately prepared an extra one while creating the pill for Bobby. Without the pill, even Ashton’s expertise might have fallen short.

When Ashton was poised to administer the pill to Selena, Samuel re-entered the emergency room and caught sight of what Ashton was doing. Horrified, he charged toward Ashton. “Stop! You can’t just administer unknown substances to a patient! You’re gambling with her life!”

Ashton ignored Samuel’s outburst. He was certain the Longevity Pill would save Selena.

With unwavering resolve, he faced Samuel and asserted, “I understand your concerns, but I assure you, this pill will stabilize Selena’s condition.”

Samuel didn’t believe him. “Who do you think you are? This is a Campbell family member. If anything happens to her, you will face severe consequences!”

Unfazed by Samuel’s threats, Ashton responded calmly, “I know what I’m doing, and I’m willing to take full responsibility. Right now, our priority is to save the patient. Please, don’t interfere.”

Just then, Rosalie burst into the emergency room. She was taken aback to see Ashton about to administer a pill to her sister.

“Miss Campbell, this man is acting recklessly! I understand you’re anxious, but we must think clearly!” Samuel quickly dissuaded Rosalie.

Rosalie, however, shook her head firmly and showed no intention of stopping Ashton.

“Miss Campbell, our hospital is doing everything possible for your sister,” Samuel persisted in an urgent tone. “We’ve even summoned Dr. Garrett Howard, one of Inewood’s top medical experts. He’s on his way. Should anything happen before he arrives, even Dr. Howard may not be able to reverse the damage!”

Ashton shook his head firmly. “Given her current condition, she might not survive long enough for Dr. Howard to make a difference.”

A flicker of hope ignited within Rosalie when she caught the resolve in Ashton’s eyes and the pill in his hand. After a brief hesitation, she declared, “I trust you, Dr. Baldwin. Please, do whatever you can to save my sister. I’ll shoulder any consequences with you.”

With Rosalie’s approval, Ashton nodded and gently administered the Longevity Pill to Selena. Then, with a focused breath, he reached for a set of silver needles from the instrument cart.

After quickly sterilizing them, Ashton began applying his specialized technique—Divine Acupuncture. One by one, he inserted the needles into Selena’s skin. The rapid succession and sheer number of needles were startling to observe.

The surrounding medical team, including Samuel, watched in mixed awe and alarm. They were worried that Ashton’s unconventional methods were too radical and could endanger the patient.

No one in the room had ever seen such a treatment before. If Rosalie hadn’t explicitly given her consent, they might have already called the police.

But then, something remarkable happened that silenced any doubts. A nurse suddenly exclaimed in astonishment.

Selena’s previously waxy and pale complexion began to flush with color, and her breathing grew more stable by the second.

Ashton exhaled deeply and wiped the sweat from his forehead.

Thanks to his expert application of acupuncture and the miraculous effects of the Longevity Pill, he had successfully pulled Selena back from the brink of death.

Seeing her sister’s condition stabilize, Rosalie’s face lit up with joy. Her previously tense expression melted into relief. Tears welled up in her eyes, accompanied by a grateful smile.

However, not everyone shared in the celebration. Samuel watched the scene with a scowl.

The truth was, he wasn’t concerned about the patient’s well-being. He was jealous of the unwavering support Rosalie showed Ashton.

If Ashton hadn’t shown up, he had hoped to earn her trust for himself.

In his frustration, Samuel muttered under his breath, “This recovery must be temporary. Selena’s condition will deteriorate again, and Rosalie will regret trusting this fake doctor. When she does, the blame will fall squarely on Ashton, and my own professional reputation will remain unscathed.”

At that moment, Ashton was instructing several nurses to assist him.

As Selena’s condition visibly improved under Ashton’s care, the nurses began to trust his expertise and followed his instructions without hesitation.

However, Samuel intervened abruptly.

“Stop!”

The nurses turned to Samuel, puzzled. “Dr. Malone, what’s the problem?”

Samuel shook his head firmly and declared, “The patient hasn’t regained consciousness yet, so we can’t say for sure her condition is improving. This man doesn’t even have a medical license. The responsibility will fall on him. I cannot allow you to get involved and jeopardize the hospital’s reputation. Do you understand? Otherwise, you’ll share the consequences with him!”

Confronted with Samuel’s stern warning, the nurses reluctantly withdrew.

Samuel shot a defiant look at Ashton.

Ashton met Samuel’s challenge with a cool, dismissive glance and didn’t let Samuel’s interference bother him. He gestured for Rosalie to come closer and help him continue the treatment.

Watching Rosalie, a woman of high status, assisting Ashton willingly only fueled Samuel’s frustration further. Just then, a message from outside the emergency room arrived.

“Dr. Malone, good news! Mr. Howard has arrived and is on his way up!”

Upon hearing this, Samuel’s spirits lifted noticeably.

With Garrett, a respected medical authority, arriving soon, Samuel felt confident that he would be able to discredit Ashton and reveal him as a fraud.
