Chapter 15:
Samuel was utterly stunned by Garrett’s firm stance. The shock of being rejected in front of the medical staff and Rosalie was overwhelming for him.
Anger surged within Samuel, and he responded with a sharp tone, “Mr. Howard, what exactly are you implying? I am an elite doctor with international training and the youngest chief physician at Inewood Central Hospital. If you decline to choose me as your assistant for such critical treatment, then who will you choose? Ashton?”
Garrett dismissed the concern with a wave of his hand, stating gravely, “You’re misinterpreting the situation. I do not require any assistants for this treatment.”
Samuel felt a temporary relief at these words. He could come to terms with Garrett not selecting any assistant at all. However, the mere thought of Garrett possibly selecting Ashton over him was completely intolerable!
But what Garrett did next left Samuel completely dumbfounded.
He walked over to Ashton with a genuine look of respect. “Mr. Baldwin, I have maintained a strong relationship with the Campbell family for many years, and I am deeply concerned about Selena’s health. Would you consider giving me a chance to serve as your assistant?” he asked courteously.
Samuel stood in disbelief as Garrett addressed Ashton with such deference. He found it hard to digest the scene, preferring to believe that Garrett was asking Ashton to assist him, rather than the reverse.
Garrett, a distinguished expert in his field, was unrivaled by many in Inewood. The notion of such a prominent figure serving as an assistant to a relatively unknown doctor was almost inconceivable.
Ashton regarded Garrett without apparent admiration. “If you’re here to contribute, please stay. You’re already familiar with the patient’s history, aren’t you?”
Garrett responded with eager affirmation, “Yes. Mr. Baldwin, direct me as you see fit. I am committed to providing whatever assistance you need!”

Ashton acknowledged this, and then shifted his focus to Samuel.
“As for those who do not pertain to this case, especially this individual, I’d appreciate it if you could escort them out, Mr. Howard.” He pointed at Samuel with a composed expression as he spoke.
Overwhelmed with fury, Samuel growled, “Who do you think you are to dismiss me? What gives you the right to kick me out? Mr. Howard, please ignore this baseless rant!”
A steely glint appeared in Ashton’s eyes as he retorted, “His medical skills are subpar, his character is dubious, and he lacks the ethics required of a doctor. The patient was critically ill, and rather than proposing a viable treatment, he interfered with mine. His presence in the emergency room jeopardizes the procedure. I cannot allow him to remain here!”
Samuel’s face flushed deeply with indignation at Ashton’s harsh words.
“That’s absolute nonsense!” Samuel protested, but Garrett interrupted him sharply.
“Why are you raising your voice? It appears Mr. Baldwin’s observations are accurate. You show no concern for the patient. You’re just here to cause problems!”
Garrett then directed the other medical staff. “Please remove Samuel from the emergency room immediately. And as the honorary director of Inewood Central Hospital, I am hereby terminating Samuel’s employment!”
Samuel stood there, speechless. It was only when the medical staff began to escort him away that he returned to his senses.
“Mr. Howard, you’re making a mistake. You’re dismissing me over this impostor? You will regret this decision!” Samuel contended, resisting as he was led away. Disgust was evident on Garrett’s face as he watched the scene unfold.
“I already regret not having dismissed you earlier! Why are you still here? Remove him immediately!” Garrett commanded forcefully.
Following his directive, the medical team promptly escorted Samuel out of the emergency room.
With the distraction removed, Ashton returned his attention to Selena.
“Please provide the instruments I require and update me on the patient’s medical background,” Ashton requested calmly, his fingers skillfully maneuvering the gleaming silver needles.
Thereafter, the treatment resumed.
Ashton’s hands moved with exceptional agility over Selena’s body, making the silver needles dance as if they possessed their own life.
Garrett observed intently but struggled to follow Ashton’s rapid technique.
Throughout his extensive career in medicine, Garrett had never witnessed such a masterful display. He became convinced that Ashton was employing the mythical Divine Acupuncture technique.
Compelled by curiosity, Garrett asked cautiously, “Dr. Baldwin, are you the one known as the Hand of God?”
Ashton cast a brief glance in Garrett’s direction but did not verbalize a response.
However, Garrett soon understood the truth on his own. Within merely ten minutes, Ashton concluded his treatment.
As he carefully removed the needles, Selena’s eyelashes quivered, and her eyes slowly fluttered open.
“Where am I?” Selena inquired, her voice weak and disoriented by the strange surroundings.
Rosalie, who had been watching anxiously as her sister regained consciousness, was overwhelmed with relief. Feeling elated, she approached the operating table swiftly and grasped Ashton’s hand firmly.
“Thank you, Dr. Baldwin! Without your intervention, I dread to think what might have become of my sister,” Rosalie stated as tears of relief streamed down her cheeks, her gaze filled with profound trust and gratitude.
