Chapter 157
Chapter 157:
Hearing these words, Fraser refrained from pressing further. He recognized the signs of a man who had completely lost touch with reality, and strangely, that was exactly the kind of ally Fraser needed. A man like Phillip, unhinged and desperate, was the perfect instrument for the job.
Fraser saw an opportunity in Phillip’s madness—an opportunity to orchestrate Ashton’s downfall without dirtying his own hands. All it would take was a little nudge to push Phillip to do the unthinkable.
After ending the call, Phillip returned to his residence. He feverishly rummaged through old boxes, gathering his scant savings along with some money he had borrowed from Fraser. He believed this would be enough to engage the infamous Dark Night Organization.
Known as the most ruthless group of assassins in the underworld, their reputation for ensuring the death of any target was unparalleled. That was why the Dark Night Organization demanded a high price.
Phillip cared little for the cost. Driven by a mix of desperation and hysteria, he was willing to invest every last penny to see Ashton dead. He was convinced that this act would reset his life and pave the way for the future he had once envisioned.
In his frenzied state, Phillip was a man teetering on the edge of complete madness.
Ashton was unaware of Phillip’s actions.
After his flawless performance, Ashton found himself surrounded by a throng of students as the show came to an end. No sooner had he snapped a few photos with some girls than a boy on the other side called for his autograph, keeping Ashton engaged and completely unaware of Phillip’s whereabouts. However, from those who had been near Phillip earlier, one managed to edge close to Ashton.
“Mr. Baldwin, you’re the talk of the town! You’re like the school’s biggest star right now! Just before your performance, a guy and Tristan were sitting with us, doubting how well you’d do. They were sure it wouldn’t be your best night. But after seeing your flawless execution, they were left speechless, their faces a shade of green. They skedaddled before we could even stand up for you!”
The student’s face beamed with excitement as he relayed this. Ashton offered a thankful smile.

Deep down, he pictured Phillip and Tristan seething with anger. He had feigned ignorance brilliantly, leading them to believe their plan would succeed. Yet, as their scheme unraveled, they were forced to watch his triumphant performance. He was certain Phillip felt utterly defeated by now.
As soon as the students left, Ashton seized the moment to text Sheila.
“Keep an eye on Phillip. Let me know if he does anything unusual.”
Phillip had retreated this time after his failed attempt, but Ashton could tell that Phillip’s reliance on such tactics stemmed from desperation. Ashton anticipated that Phillip, pushed to the edge, would likely take even bolder actions.
Once he had managed these issues, Ashton stretched lazily, readying himself to head home for some much-needed rest. However, before he could even take a couple of steps, a new group of students approached him.
This group was different. They were all members of the choir, with Selena at the helm.
