Chapter 192
Chapter 192:
“What is happening? Smoke and explosions? Could terrorists be targeting the site?”
Steven had no time to process further. The acrid smoke reached him, filling his senses with dread.
If another explosion were to occur, he would be trapped and face certain death.
Thus, Steven pivoted and chased after Ashton. The other family members, terrified for their safety, quickly followed his lead.
The injured on stretchers were also overtaken by panic.
Upon witnessing the thick black smoke and the explosions emanating from the office, they desperately shouted, “Wait! We are still here! Someone, please help!”
However, no one paid any heed to their safety, as everyone was preoccupied with their own escape.
Realizing they had been abandoned and were in imminent danger, they scrambled off their stretchers, despite their plaster casts, and plunged into the fleeing crowd.
They moved with such speed that even thunder could not keep up with them.
Steven and the others followed Ashton to the entrance of the construction site. When Ashton came to a stop, they did as well.
Looking back, they saw that the smoke and explosions from the office had come to an end.
Confusion spread among the troublemakers as they exchanged looks of bewilderment.
Breathless and struggling to regain his composure, Steven asked Ashton, “What exactly happened inside? What was the nature of the danger?”
Ashton responded with a sneer, “Didn’t I make it clear that there would be severe consequences for faking injuries in an attempt to gain money? That was the peril you were confronted with!”

The troublemakers glanced at one another, clearly failing to grasp the situation.
Ashton dismissed their confusion and fixed his gaze critically on the plaster casts worn by the injured workers. His expression remained inscrutable.
With a mocking tone, he taunted, “Aren’t these workers supposed to have broken legs? How is it that they managed to run faster than I did?”
Steven immediately recognized the blunder. Their hasty movements had exposed them.
He promptly gave a signal to the so-called “injured” workers.
It was only at that moment that they comprehended what had transpired and slowly settled onto the ground. They groaned as if in agony and attempted to justify their actions, one of them saying, “In that critical moment, our adrenaline surged, causing us to overlook the pain!”
Ashton responded with a derisive tone, “Just moments ago, these individuals were on stretchers. How is it that they are now so full of energy?”
Steven tried to defend their actions, insisting, “Hmm… Adrenaline spikes! Isn’t it possible that they could experience that effect?”
