Roger did not fully grasp Ashton’s intentions but agreed to his request before ending the conversation.

After disconnecting the call, Ashton exhaled deeply and stared out of the window.

Initially, Ashton had thought that Jacoby was a formidable ally brought in by Fraser or perhaps someone of considerable influence.

Yet, as he had interacted with Jacoby, Ashton realized that Jacoby was merely a spoiled individual with no substantial acumen.

Jacoby relied on trivial and ineffective methods rather than sophisticated strategies.

Unlike Fraser, who was adept at hiding his true motives, Jacoby’s emotions were transparent and easy to read. Such a person posed no real threat to the Campbell family or to Skyline Group.

Ashton’s concern shifted to Fraser’s recent unexplained disappearance since the Sup Group’s arrival in Inewood. Ashton was uncertain about Fraser’s objectives, and even Rosalie had been unable to acquire any useful information.

The increasing silence only reinforced Ashton’s suspicion that Fraser was deeply involved with the Sup Group’s activities.

As for Jacoby, he appeared to be nothing more than a diversion designed to mislead Ashton.

Thus, Ashton concluded that dealing with Jacoby quickly was essential.

Only by removing this distraction could Ashton hope to uncover the true mastermind behind the Sup Group’s operations.

As night enveloped the city, Zeke sat in his dimly lit, cramped rental apartment, a cigarette hanging from his lips. He exhaled a plume of smoke and let out a weary sigh of frustration.

The entire day had been spent in a relentless search for any incriminating details about Ashton, but Zeke had found nothing substantial.

This marked the first time in years that Zeke had failed to uncover any negative information about someone. In his view, Ashton was not particularly virtuous; it was simply that information about him was scarce.

Once a live-in son-in-law of the James family, Ashton lived an insular life, rarely venturing beyond the confines of his home. This left Zeke with no useful material to exploit.

Details about Ashton’s life prior to his association with the James family were even more elusive, as if he had appeared out of nowhere.

At one point, Zeke even considered the possibility that Ashton might be an undocumented refugee smuggled from another country.

With this thought in mind, Zeke suddenly had a new idea: he could capitalize on Ashton’s mysterious background. A university professor with an obscure past could easily be portrayed as an international spy infiltrated from abroad.

Feeling a surge of inspiration, Zeke was ready to begin writing his article, now convinced he had found his angle. However, just as his fingers were about to touch the keyboard, the door was violently kicked open.
