Chapter 269
Chapter 269:
“We’ll soon discover who the real culprit is.”
When Jacoby saw the sudden change in Ashton’s demeanor, along with the confident look in his eyes, his heart unexpectedly skipped a beat.
Jacoby suddenly recalled the numerous occasions he had previously underestimated Ashton, only to suffer the consequences each time.
Now, observing Ashton’s assured expression, Jacoby instinctively began to feel a creeping sense of unease.
He quickly made up an excuse, claiming he had to take a call, and stepped away from Ashton. He immediately contacted Roger.
“Did any of you leave any loose ends? I just inspected the situation, and I’m beginning to suspect they might have caught on to something. You need to be extremely careful over there!”
Roger, who had just pocketed the payment from Jacoby, was currently celebrating in a restaurant with his men, indulging in a feast and drinks.
Despite the festivities, Roger hadn’t forgotten Ashton’s instructions and played along, saying, “Don’t worry about it. We know exactly what we’re doing. You can be at ease!”
Hearing the laughter and the clinking of glasses from the other end of the line, Jacoby began to think that nothing had gone wrong, contrary to his earlier suspicions.
Jacoby felt a small sense of relief and instinctively concluded that Ashton was merely bluffing, which reignited his annoyance.
“Damn it, he almost got to me. I should go back and see how he’s reacting!”
Just as Jacoby was thinking this, and before he could hang up, a sudden commotion erupted on the other end of the line.

“Do not move an inch! We are the police, and you are to place your hands on your head, squat down without delay, and refrain from any unnecessary resistance!”
Despite the overwhelming noise on the other end of the line, Jacoby was still able to discern the essence of what was being said.
It appeared that Roger and his crew had been apprehended by the authorities.
Jacoby froze momentarily, but he quickly regained his composure, immediately shutting off his phone, removing the SIM card, and tossing it aside.
Fortunately, he had exercised caution and used a SIM card registered under a false identity to communicate with Roger.
Had he not taken that precaution, he too might have been exposed!
Just as Jacoby was struggling to process this unsettling turn of events, something even more disconcerting occurred.
He noticed Ashton approaching, also holding a mobile phone, with a smile that only added to Jacoby’s growing unease.
Jacoby forced himself to maintain his composure, and with a strained smile, he asked, “Hey, what’s got you so pleased? Did they catch the culprit responsible?”
Ashton nodded, replying, “These antiques are worth a fortune, so to be safe, we had cameras installed in the truck. The police followed the leads and managed to nab those responsible. I’m heading over to see what’s going on and to find out who had the audacity to try and sabotage Skyline Group’s event.”
