Chapter 270
Chapter 270:
As he spoke, the smile gradually disappeared from his face, and his voice took on a chilling, icy tone.
Jacoby experienced a mix of relief and tension, feeling relieved because he had not been present at the scene, which likely spared him from being caught. However, anxiety gnawed at him as he worried about what might happen if Roger decided to betray him.
Considering the recent negative attention surrounding Sup Group, another scandal involving malicious competition could be catastrophic for Jacoby. Even if Fraser spared his life, his own brother, Beal, wouldn’t let him off the hook.
Panicked internally but desperate to keep up appearances, Jacoby forced a grin and said, “I should go too, just to make sure these people won’t be a threat to our Sup Group in the future.”
Ashton, intent on keeping Jacoby under psychological pressure, saw no reason to deny his request.
Before long, both Ashton and Jacoby arrived at the police station, though they traveled separately.
Their arrival coincided with the police escorting Roger and his crew into custody.
On the way, Jacoby frantically contacted some of his connections, and after spending a considerable sum of money, managed to bribe one of the officers.
When Ashton stepped out of the car, this officer promptly appeared, whisking Ashton away for what he claimed was part of the investigation and evidence collection process.
This maneuver allowed Jacoby the chance to speak with Roger and his men before Ashton did.
Once alone with the downtrodden Roger, Jacoby barely contained his fury as he whispered, “How could you let this happen? Weren’t you supposed to handle things without a hitch?”

Roger, his face twisted with distress, responded, “I already destroyed the dashcam in the truck, but I didn’t expect there to be cameras inside the cargo area too. What are we going to do now?”
Jacoby let out a disdainful snort and retorted, “You’re asking me? This is entirely your fault! If you had fled back to Staville right after, we wouldn’t be in this mess. This disaster is all on you, and you’d better keep my name out of it!”
Roger looked troubled and said, “But these antiques are worth a fortune, and without your involvement, there’s no way we can pay for them! Why not help shoulder some of this burden? Otherwise, I’m afraid the pressure will get to me, and I might end up revealing your involvement.”
Jacoby wanted to refuse, but the potential consequences loomed too large in his mind, and he couldn’t risk it.
Left with no choice, Jacoby gritted his teeth, transferred a hefty sum of money to Roger on the spot, and said with a sharp tone, “This is everything I can give. You’ll have to handle the rest on your own. If you had been smarter and avoided getting caught, none of this would be happening. Remember, you must not mention my name, or I promise you’ll never know peace again!”
