Chapter 308
Chapter 308:
They had already harbored hostility toward Ashton, and now, viewing him as ungrateful, they were incensed.
One of them slammed the table, stood up, and pointed at Ashton as he shouted, “What do you mean by that? We’re from a major corporation in Staville, and our general manager personally invited you to join us, yet you show no appreciation? Do you realize what you’re rejecting?”
“Exactly! This is a chance many would vie for fiercely, and yet, you display not even a trace of thankfulness. You’re simply being irrational!”
Confronted with the aggressive stance of the Sup Group executives, Ashton’s demeanor remained tranquil, his smile unflinching.
He shrugged slightly, his tone tinged with feigned regret. “I was initially curious about Mr. Marquez’s sincerity. Had he pressed the issue, perhaps I would have entertained the idea of joining your ranks. But now? I believe we have reached an impasse. The overt aggression of your group has made it abundantly clear that there is no respect for me here. Toiling in such an antagonistic atmosphere would scarcely differ from enduring a sentence in a prison. Moreover, I’m intrigued to see how you might respond should I persist in my refusal.”
While Sup Group might not have been a major player in Staville, its scale was formidable enough that no family business in Inewood could lightly challenge it.
Because of this, the people from Sup Group held themselves in high regard.
Being provoked by a small-time player from an inconsequential place left them feeling both humiliated and enraged.
Beal, in particular, was furious. He had approached Ashton not because he recognized any real value in Ashton’s abilities but to undermine Skyline Group’s influence.
Seeing Ashton refuse to play along, Beal’s smile faded, replaced by a cold expression as he said, “I’ve already shown my sincerity. Must you be so ungrateful?”
Ashton’s response was measured and calm. “Your version of sincerity seems indistinguishable from arrogance and prejudice.”
Beal’s temper flared at these words. “Arrogance and prejudice, you say? If that’s the game you wish to play, prepare for our ruthlessness!”
Rosalie, who had been silently observing, sensed the escalating tension. She swiftly produced her phone, issuing a stern warning. “Don’t do anything rash, or I’m calling the police immediately.”
Beal gave Rosalie a dismissive glance, his sneer sharp as a knife. “Do you honestly believe that Sup Group can’t handle a little scandal? I’d rather not waste further time on this charade. But make no mistake, he has provoked us. As Skyline Group’s envoy, he is openly defying Sup Group. What hope remains for these peace talks?”
Ashton, undeterred and with a hint of provocation in his tone, countered, “Are you implying that it’s actually Skyline Group that’s desperate for peace?”
This barb ignited a firestorm within Beal. He snapped back, “Very well! Since you’ve framed it so, let’s end these discussions. Whatever consequences arise, the responsibility lies with you.”
Though fury clouded Beal’s judgment, his primary aim was clear—to coerce Ashton into submission so he could claim the upper hand in their negotiations. He was convinced that Ashton would buckle under the pressure.
