Rosalie hesitated, uncertain how to reply. She looked at Ashton, who picked up on her reluctance and said, “Thanks, but I’m quite familiar with appraising antiques myself. We should be fine.”
“Just you?” Abrial couldn’t hide her derision as she chuckled.
Nearby, Davis smirked quietly, his gaze filled with skepticism. A young man in his twenties being an expert in antiques? That seemed unlikely.

Seeing Abrial’s approval of Ashton, Davis’ mood darkened like storm clouds gathering on the horizon. He seized the moment to make a pointed remark. “Don’t be deceived by his smooth talk. Identifying a minor ailment is hardly a feat. If he truly has the talent he claims, let’s see how he performs during the antique exchange later!”
