Corey paused for a moment, recognizing the significance of the Carter name.

While the Carter family didn’t possess overwhelming authority in Staville, they were still a force to be reckoned with. But so what?

The black market operated outside the law, and even the Carter name held little sway here.

Moreover, people had killed for less; if necessary, he could simply vanish after this encounter.

Corey shouted at his wavering men with a steely gaze,

“What are you waiting for? Get moving! Do you want to wait until the Carter family shows up?”

His men quickly understood, their faces turning fierce as they closed in on Ashton and the two women.

The onlookers who had initially stepped forward to assist promptly retreated, unwilling to entangle themselves. They remained silent, fearful of even making a sound.

For a moment, the situation became tense.

Abrial hadn’t expected such a predicament and had not brought her bodyguards along.

Now encircled by a crowd, she felt a tinge of regret.

But she knew regret was pointless at this moment.

Protecting Rosalie, their guest, was what truly mattered.

“Rosalie, I’m so sorry to have exposed you to this danger. I’ll clear a path for us to escape soon. Take that chance to get out with Ashton; don’t worry about me. Even if I fall here today, you must make it out safely,” Abrial whispered to the two beside her.

However, Abrial noticed that Rosalie’s expression didn’t reflect the fear she expected.

Though Rosalie wasn’t scared, she was still concerned. She understood this scenario wasn’t a major challenge for Ashton, but she worried that he might sustain injuries.

“Ashton, be careful. If you get hurt, I’ll be upset and ignore you!” Rosalie murmured to Ashton like a spoiled child.

Ashton gently patted Rosalie’s head and smiled. “Don’t worry. I won’t give you a reason to be upset.”

Abrial observed the pair and then reacted with disbelief. “Rosalie, have you lost your senses? Do you really think your assistant can handle eight opponents alone?” Ashton glanced at Abrial and said, “That painting is authentic. Make sure to look after it. As for the rest, leave it to me.”

With that, Ashton moved forward, assessing the crowd that had encircled them.

Watching Ashton’s determined stance, Abrial, although finding his approach audacious, couldn’t help but be impressed. “He’s insanely cool. If I weren’t into women, he’d be my top pick!”

Corey was seething at Ashton’s boldness.
