Chapter 440
Chapter 440:
“Hey! You!” Nolan shouted. “Why are you scurrying around like a rat? Do you even understand the gravity of this interview? People like you…”
His words faltered as he watched Ashton confidently claim the main interviewer’s chair. Ashton met his gaze with a serene smile and challenged, “What about people like me? Please, continue.”
Nolan’s face turned crimson with embarrassment, and he was left speechless.
Jeff cleared his throat and coldly declared, “Nolan, my acquaintance with your father does not entitle you to arrogance or the right to belittle others. Allowing you to join us would only complicate management. Therefore, after consulting with our main interviewer, we’ve decided it’s best to pass on this opportunity and offer it to someone more suitable.”
Panicked, Nolan implored, “Jeff, our families have shared ties for years. I applied out of respect for my father’s relationship with you. Are you truly not going to extend any courtesy?”
Jeff’s expression grew frosty. “I am showing respect to your family by addressing you politely. It is you who is failing to reciprocate. Would you have me jeopardize our families’ relations over this?”
Caught off guard by Jeff’s unwavering stance, Nolan hastily retreated. Imagining the familial uproar that would ensue if he sparked a feud with this respected figure over a trivial matter, Nolan exited the interview room, his head bowed in defeat.
His followers, oblivious to the swift reversal, watched as Nolan exited faster than Carlotta had. They began applauding, one of them exclaiming, “You are truly remarkable, Nolan! You were only in there for a moment, probably secured your position with just a few words!”
This blatant display of double standards provoked the ire of those waiting in line. One onlooker retorted, “That young lady earlier left just as quickly, yet you didn’t praise her. Playing favorites, are you?”
Oblivious to Nolan’s humiliated expression, his followers continued their arrogant boasts. “Do you not grasp that not everyone is equal? How could that woman possibly merit comparison?”

Nolan found the praise from his followers, which usually fed his vanity, increasingly irksome. Their flattery now seemed to mock him, causing him mounting embarrassment. It felt as though he was trapped in the spotlight, unable to escape.
Admitting that Jeff had ousted him would damage not only his own reputation but also tarnish the McCoy family’s honor. The situation was degrading, particularly in front of industry peers. Overwhelmed, Nolan abruptly left without a farewell, not once looking back.
His followers, lost in their adulation, were taken aback to see that Nolan had disappeared silently. They looked at each other in confusion, trying to figure out what had just transpired.
As they were about to follow him, the interview room door swung open. Edwin stepped out and began calling out names directly, without any introduction.
Hearing their names, Nolan’s followers halted, elated by the thought that Nolan might have already secured their job offers and departed early to avoid drama.
