As Phillip and Miriam displayed aggression and fearlessness, even Ashton couldn’t help but frown in response. Legal matters were not his forte, after all. Yet, just because Ashton wasn’t skilled in this area, it didn’t mean that others around him weren’t adept.
He remembered a conversation with Rosalie from days prior when she had expressed her concerns about Phillip’s disruptive behavior. She had introduced Ashton to a top lawyer, Aaron Gray, for this very reason. With a cold glare at Miriam and Phillip, Ashton quickly pulled out his phone and made a call.
The call connected swiftly.
“Mr. Gray, this is Ashton, whom Rosalie introduced. Are you available right now? I’m at Fusion Cafe on South Road and need your help,” Ashton stated, cutting right to the chase.
Ashton was introduced by Rosalie, prompting Aaron not to hesitate.
“Rosalie has already briefed me on your situation. I’ll be there as soon as I can,” he replied.
Knowing that Aaron was on his way, Ashton felt a wave of relief wash over him. Just to be safe, he also sent a message to Rosalie.
Rosalie was deeply worried about Ashton. She dropped everything when she got his message and decided to join him at the cafe. After all, Selena’s fate was tied to Ashton’s actions, and she couldn’t risk anything happening to him now.
Miriam, seeing Ashton’s stern face as he made phone calls, couldn’t help but feel smug.
“What, getting scared and trying to call for help? Let me tell you, even if you call the police, it won’t make a difference. We know how to handle any evidence the case may need! Crushing you is as simple as stepping on an ant for us,” she boasted arrogantly.
Phillip, seated nearby, appeared equally unfazed. He casually trimmed his nails and occasionally sipped his coffee, making no move to interfere with Ashton’s calls. Moreover, Phillip mocked with a complacent air, “No matter what you do, it’s futile. You’re just exhausting yourself with pointless efforts.”

Ashton met Phillip’s gaze but chose to ignore him, continuing to work on his phone.
Phillip sneered, finding satisfaction in Ashton’s struggle. Recalling the recent humiliations he had suffered at Ashton’s hands, he now felt a delicious sense of triumph. Phillip went on to say, “You’re merely a reject from the James family. How could you possibly think you can match me in this field? Even if you manage to get help and secure a competent lawyer, what then?”
Seeing the scorn in Ashton’s eyes, Phillip wasn’t irritated this time, as he was sure of his victory. He shrugged and boasted further. “Still unconvinced? Do you really think you can take me on? You should recognize your place. With the influence of my family and the connections I’ve built in this industry, there are few lawyers in Inewood who wouldn’t show me respect!”
Miriam, hearing Phillip’s declarations, looked even more pleased and sure of herself. She confidently declared, “Bring whoever you want; it won’t change anything. No matter who comes, we will take back every penny you owe us!”
