Chapter 53
Chapter 53:
Miriam was pressing hard, yet Ashton stood his ground. He retorted icily, “I owe you nothing, so there’s no money you should be expecting.”
This made Miriam’s face flush with anger. Phillip, calm and composed, gently took her hand and said, “Please, sit down and relax. There’s no need to get worked up over this nonsense.”
Miriam nodded appreciatively at his calming presence. She found herself increasingly impressed with this prospective son-in-law—he had the right connections, strength, and a caring nature.
Phillip then faced Ashton, confidence etched across his face. “Ashton, you might talk tough now, but soon it won’t matter who intervenes; you’ll find it impossible to hold onto that money. And just so you’re aware, your marriage wasted Emalee’s best years. You owe her for that lost time. If you don’t settle this, we’ll take it to court and you’ll end up paying far more. Not to mention, you’ve assaulted both me and Miriam. If we press charges, you could be behind bars in no time.”
Ashton looked at Phillip as if he were foolish. “Are you really a lawyer? Do you even listen to yourself? Emalee initiated the divorce, and now I supposedly owe her for her wasted time?” Ashton scoffed coldly.
Phillip, unperturbed and still arrogant, responded, “Do you even know what I do for a living? When I say compensation is due, it’s due!”
Ashton decided not to argue further. Phillip was clearly detached from reality, and there was no point in prolonging the conversation.
Just then, the door to the coffee shop swung open. A man in a sharp suit entered, his expression stern and his gaze penetrating. From just one look, it was clear this man commanded respect and was no ordinary individual. He made his way directly toward Ashton.
Ashton immediately realized; this had to be Aaron.

Following Aaron, to Ashton’s pleasant surprise, was a familiar face. Rosalie entered with a broad smile, waving enthusiastically at Ashton.
Phillip and Miriam, with their backs to the door, hadn’t noticed Aaron’s entrance. However, Phillip saw the change in Ashton’s demeanor and guessed what was occurring.
Phillip smirked and remarked, “It seems your lawyer has arrived, hasn’t he? I’m eager to see who you’ve brought! No matter who it is, I’ll still make you surrender your money!”
As he boasted and turned around, his smile froze upon seeing Aaron. Panic seized Phillip’s heart.
Aaron, the top lawyer in Inewood! One of the elites! This distinguished lawyer boasted an almost perfect win rate across the cases he handled!
Phillip knew he was outmatched by someone of Aaron’s caliber. Indeed, when Phillip had returned to Inewood, his aspiration was to become a lawyer as esteemed as Aaron!
Phillip’s face twitched, leaving him speechless. Gone was his earlier arrogance toward Ashton. Now, he couldn’t even muster the courage to meet Aaron’s eyes!
