Chapter 560
Chapter 560:
Ashton’s jaw tightened, his hands working faster with the needles. “No,” he said firmly, “I will save you.”
Alisha was quiet for a moment, her breath shallow, before continuing, “I heard… everything. I was too dizzy to move, but I heard your exchange with Red Jack. You…”
“Should’ve gone after him. Instead, you chose to save me… But now look at the mess. I can’t be saved, and he’s long gone. You were foolish to change course.”
A flash of anger darkened Ashton’s eyes. His voice dropped to a sharp whisper. “Stop. You’re not going to die, and I will find a way to cure you.”
But Alisha was eerily calm. Her voice softened, imbued with a strange serenity only those close to death seemed to possess. “I heard it all, Ashton. Once the poison spreads, I’m done for. I can already feel it… spreading from my throat.”
That caught his attention. Her throat?
Ashton’s mind raced. Could it be possible that the thing Red Jack had forced into her mouth wasn’t a pill?
His instincts flared to life. Abandoning the acupuncture needles, he gently lifted Alisha, propping her into a sitting position. His hand hovered around her throat, feeling for something—anything—that might confirm his hunch.
And then, he felt it—a slight but unmistakable irregularity under the skin.
For the first time in her life, Alisha found herself held so closely, so intimately by someone. Even in her weakened state, a flush of embarrassment crept up her neck, her instincts stirring. She parted her lips to object, but before any words could escape, Ashton’s hands gently cupped her face, and without a moment’s hesitation, his lips met hers in an unexpected and urgent kiss.
Ashton’s unexpected action was far from a mere attempt to revive her—it was an impassioned kiss, deep and fervent. His tongue pried open Alisha’s lips, entwining with hers as if on a quest to uncover hidden treasures within her.
The kiss took Alisha completely by surprise, leaving her mind a blank canvas. She had often daydreamed about her first kiss, imagining it under a luminous full moon beside a tranquil river, or at the very least, in a romantic setting that would make onlookers envious.

Yet, here she was, experiencing her first kiss amid chaos, without a hint of warning.
Once she regained her senses, Alisha instinctively tried to pull away, but her injuries and the effects of the poison had rendered her too weak to resist. All she could do was endure Ashton’s exploration, his lips and tongue drawing out her saliva in a strange, intimate dance. Was Ashton trying to etch beautiful memories into her mind before her life slipped away?
But how could this be considered a beautiful memory when it was only their second encounter?
Despite this, Alisha found herself without the strength to push him away. Rather than waste her energy in a futile struggle, why not savor this fleeting moment of pleasure?
As she began to lose herself in the depths of Ashton’s kiss, he suddenly pulled away.
In an instant, Alisha regained clarity and, summoning her remaining strength, shoved Ashton back, her eyes reflecting deep disappointment.
