But just as her words hung in the air, she noticed Ashton’s cheek was slightly swollen, as if he was hiding something. Before she could inquire, Ashton spat out a thumb-sized worm, which wriggled briefly before going still.
Upon witnessing this, Ashton let out a sigh of relief. “It seems I was right. What Red Jack gave you wasn’t a concentrated pill, but this venomous worm. Since you were semi-conscious at the time and didn’t swallow it, it clung to your esophagus. I tried several times before but couldn’t completely clear the toxins because this was the source. Now that it’s out, detoxifying you should be straightforward.”
With that, Ashton gently laid Alisha back on the floor and resumed his acupuncture treatment.
True to his word, once the poison’s source was expelled, he skillfully detoxified her, successfully ridding her body of the harmful substances.
As Alisha’s skin gradually returned to its vibrant complexion and the swelling subsided, Ashton sank down, fatigue etched on his face.

Noticing her silence, Ashton smiled awkwardly and added, “Luckily, you didn’t swallow the worm; otherwise, I wouldn’t have been able to save you. As for the earlier kiss, I sincerely apologize. I had to resort to the old way under the circumstances.”
As the reality of what had transpired settled in, Alisha felt her cheeks warm with a blush.
She bit her lip and whispered softly, “You were just trying to save me… I understand.”
