Chapter 569:

Realizing the gesture might have been a little too intimate, Ashton chuckled awkwardly. “I didn’t mean to—uh, anyway, I didn’t spot any restaurants around here. Why’d you pick this place?”

Alisha giggled and explained, “Just treating you to a meal didn’t feel like enough reward for saving my life. So, I thought I’d buy you a gift too. The only problem is… I’ve never shopped for a guy before. That’s why I wanted us to come here together. Pick anything you like—it’s on me!”

“That’s perfect!” Ashton exclaimed, his face lighting up with excitement. “My phone was wrecked when I tackled Red Jack. I’ve been needing to replace it, and this seems like the perfect chance. Thank you for your generosity, beautiful lady.”

“Smooth talker,” Alisha muttered playfully, but she didn’t hesitate to agree.

With that, the two ventured into the mall and began their shopping adventure.

As they meandered through various stores, Alisha playfully dragged Ashton into a clothing shop, asking for his help in picking out outfits, almost as if they were a couple.

Ashton couldn’t help but wonder if Alisha truly understood their conversation from the day before.

Still, seeing her bounce back from the trauma of her near-death experience, he decided to play along, offering his opinions on the outfits.

Much to Alisha’s surprise, Ashton’s fashion advice was to her liking. Every outfit he recommended seemed to suit her perfectly, enhancing her natural charm.

What began as a casual shopping trip turned into an impromptu fashion spree. Alisha decided to try on more outfits.

Ashton began to regret his decision. Now he understood why shopping with women could be exhausting.

While waiting for Alisha to finish trying on clothes, Ashton scanned the busy store out of habit.

His attention was drawn to a stylishly dressed woman behaving oddly. She seemed anxious, and her movements were erratic. Given the recent terrorist attacks orchestrated by the Dark Night Organization, Ashton’s instincts kicked in. The woman’s suspicious behavior made him uneasy.

He glanced back at Alisha, who was still engrossed in conversation with the sales assistant. Realizing she wouldn’t be leaving anytime soon, Ashton excused himself and quietly followed the woman, keeping a close eye on her movements.

The elegantly dressed woman navigated the bustling crowd, her eyes darting back with an air of unease every few steps. She moved swiftly, yet her nervous glances betrayed her calm facade.

Little did she know, Ashton, with the stealth of a shadow, was following her every move without raising even a whisper of suspicion.

She soon arrived at the mall’s public restroom.

Pausing at the entrance, she glanced around before slipping inside. Her stay was brief—far too brief for any genuine purpose—emerging within seconds.

Ashton, ever observant, noted something strange: the small crossbody bag she carried had vanished when she exited. And the tension etched on her face had only deepened.
