The accident had taken everyone by surprise, yet Ashton was the only one who managed to raise an eyebrow, his lips curling into a subtle smile. Phillip, responsible for the calamity, was frozen in disbelief. Not only had he smashed the vehicle he was sitting in, but he had also caused a chain reaction that damaged several luxury cars in the dealership. Not a single vehicle on display was of low value. The resulting damages from this catastrophe were bound to climb into the millions.
As the weight of the situation sank in, a cold sweat began to bead on Phillip’s forehead. Despite the Watson family’s considerable wealth, they were not equipped to casually write off millions in damages. What was he to do now? If his father were to learn of this, the best Phillip could hope for was a severe reprimand. Panicking, Phillip’s gaze swept over the area before he zeroed in on the intern, still in shock.
“Why was the car set to drive on the display platform? Are you trying to end my life?” Phillip exploded in anger. Seeing her prestigious client enraged, Mia acted swiftly, delivering a sharp slap to the intern. “Utterly useless! You exacerbate the situation day after day!” She then turned to Phillip, her expression one of deep apology. “I’m terribly sorry for the shock. How shall we address her mistake?”
Chloe covered her face, tears cascading down as she wept softly. “I issued warnings to you. They went unheeded, and now I bear the blame.”
Nearby, Emalee’s face turned a deep shade of red, flushed with embarrassment and a hint of guilt. She distinctly heard Chloe cautioning them from the passenger seat. Phillip must have heard it as well. But Phillip had been too engrossed in his bravado and taunts directed at Ashton. Before Emalee could caution him, he had pressed the accelerator.
At that moment, Ashton approached, his demeanor calm and deliberate. “Was this the scene you intended for me to witness? I observed everything clearly. This intern had cautioned you repeatedly, yet you chose to disregard her. How can you justify blaming her for this debacle?”
Caught in his own folly, Phillip’s face twisted in discomfort. He wanted to challenge Ashton but knew deep down that Ashton was right. But so what? If he admitted his error, the financial repercussions would be enormous. Thus, Phillip stubbornly refused to acknowledge his blunder. He even attempted a weak defense. “I just accidentally pressed the accelerator. What’s the big deal? It’s all because she changed the settings to drive mode. How else would the car have leaped off the platform?”

Mia quickly supported him. “Mr. Watson is correct! It was ultimately Chloe’s error for changing the settings. If she hadn’t, none of this would have happened. And now you’re trying to blame Mr. Watson? I will not tolerate it!” Though she projected righteousness, inwardly Mia was elated. Her support for Phillip was strategic; she was angling for his favor in hopes he would purchase the car from her. The fate of the intern was of little concern to her. As long as she pinned the blame on Chloe, the intern would bear the cost of damages, and Phillip would be satisfied. If he bought the car, her commission would be substantial. It was a win for her!
However, Ashton saw through the facade. He glanced at Chloe, who was on the verge of tears, and said firmly, “I instructed her to bring the car down to me. She changed the modes so she could move the vehicle, and that was perfectly reasonable.”
