Chapter 611
Chapter 611:
Yet, as they stepped into the lot, both of them stopped dead in their tracks, faces grim.
There, perched on the hood of their car like a crow awaiting its next feast, was a familiar figure.
Red Jack.
Ashton’s blood ran cold, but Red Jack merely sat there, crossing his legs and giving a carefree shrug as they approached.
“I’ve played this game many times before,” he said with a grin. “But you two—well, you’re the first ones to escape so smoothly. I’ll give credit where it’s due: you’ve bested me again, Ashton.”
Abrial scoffed, folding her arms. “I bet you never even rigged any…”
Bombs. You were just trying to scare us out of our wits.”
Red Jack’s smile didn’t falter, but a spark of mischief flashed in his eyes. From his pocket, he pulled a small remote and pressed a button. Nothing happened.
His smirk faded, and with an irritated tap, he pressed the button again.
A thunderous explosion shattered the mountain’s silence as the resort burst into flames. The blast was so strong that even from the parking lot, the ground shook, sending tremors through Abrial’s bones.
Her face lost all color, her earlier confidence vaporized in the blast’s wake. It was no trick—the bombs had been real all along. One misstep, one wrong move, and they would have been obliterated.
Ashton, however, remained unshaken. Sensing Red Jack’s guard momentarily down, he swiftly flicked his wrist, sending a cluster of silver needles flying straight at him.
But Red Jack, ever the seasoned player, was ready. Without missing a beat, he flicked his wrist, sending three playing cards spinning through the air, each one intercepting a needle with eerie precision.

“I know you’re itching to catch me,” Red Jack drawled, his grin unfazed. “But unfortunately, I have pressing matters to attend to. I’m afraid I can’t let you catch me just yet.”
Ashton tensed, his mind whirring. If Red Jack could plant bombs in the resort, he wouldn’t put it past him to have set traps beneath their feet. Pursuing him could mean walking straight into another deadly snare.
Seeing Ashton’s restraint, Red Jack gave a lazy shrug, amusement still glinting in his eyes. “Come now, don’t be so wound up. My work here is done, and you’ve won the game fair and square. I just came for a victory speech, that’s all. Oh, and the reward isn’t just keeping this lady. I’ve got something extra for you, a little surprise I think you’ll enjoy. We’ll meet again soon, Ashton—don’t forget to thank me when the time comes.”
With a devilish wink, he tossed a small object in Ashton’s direction.
On reflex, Ashton tackled Abrial to the ground, shielding her, but the object turned out to be nothing more than a smoke bomb.
A cloud of gray smoke swirled around them, thick and blinding. The wind whisked the smoke away, leaving the parking lot empty.
