Chapter 664:

Finally, his face drained of color, and, defeated, he slumped to the floor, hands cradling his head.

Seeing their leader in this broken state, the other insiders felt any shred of resistance drain away. They, too, sank into despair, letting go of any notion of fighting back. Meanwhile, members of the Dark Night Organization, stationed in the hall and primed to assist Fraser, were also rounded up and detained.

At last, Ashton allowed himself a breath of relief. The shadowy mastermind of the recent incidents was finally captured.

Ashton made sure he rode alongside Fraser in the police car.

Staring at the listless Fraser, Ashton wasted no time, cutting straight to the chase. “You’re well aware the poison in the gas was a lethal toxin called Despair Cycle, aren’t you? That kind of poison isn’t brewed with everyday methods. Who was it that taught you how to make it?”

Fraser, his face pale and sunken, glared back at Ashton with fiery contempt, a silence heavy with stubborn refusal. Not a single word escaped his lips; he looked determined to guard his secrets to the grave.

Ashton was hardly taken aback by Fraser’s silent defiance. After all, this was a man who had orchestrated countless terror attacks, now cornered and facing death. But Ashton had his own methods to crack a man’s silence. He began again, his tone laced with scorn, “Fraser, I’ve been watching your game all along. Every move you made has been under my watchful eye. Think back—since stepping foot in Staville, has any of your plans really succeeded? When I first heard you were the envoy of the Dark Hall, I thought you’d be a formidable adversary. But now, I see, you’re just a paper tiger with a fake reputation.”

Ashton’s continuous taunts gnawed at Fraser, grinding down the walls of his composure until finally, Fraser’s restraint shattered, his eyes burning with rage.

Barely containing his fury, Fraser growled through clenched teeth, “Ashton! Who on earth are you? I refuse to accept that I’ve lost to someone like you. But I’ve lost, so at least let me die knowing who defeated me.”

Ashton’s expression turned icy, his words cold and precise. “You want to know my identity? Then you’re going to have to tell me who taught you the Despair Cycle formula.”

A weighted silence followed. Fraser seemed locked in an inner battle, wrestling with his choice, as the car journeyed on, mile after mile. Eventually, he seemed to come to a decision, his lips parting as he finally prepared to speak.

But just as the words were about to escape him, a thunderous explosion erupted from the road ahead.

The car jolted to a sudden stop, snapping Fraser from his resolve, the words he had readied swallowed back into silence.

In the midst of the chaos, Ashton immediately attempted to contact the police units up ahead.

The driver, craning his head out of the window to survey the situation, quickly reported, “Mr. Baldwin, the road’s been blown apart, and there’s someone standing in the middle. It’s not clear if they intend to block us or have other plans in mind.”

Ashton’s pulse quickened, his gaze fixed on the road ahead as he peered out of the window.
