Chapter 666:

With a flourish, Red Jack pulled out a detonator, casually twirling it in his hand like a toy.

Ashton’s mind raced. This was his chance. If he could just disable Red Jack with a well-placed silver needle, he could snatch the remote and put an end to this madness. But he knew better than to underestimate a man like Red Jack. There was no telling what other tricks he might have up his sleeve, hidden beneath that smug exterior.

Red Jack noticed Ashton’s hesitation and laughed mockingly. “What’s the matter, Ashton? Afraid to make a move? If you wait any longer, your trigger-happy team behind you will take matters into their own hands. And trust me, if I die, everyone here dies with me.”

Ashton whipped around to see Justin in the vehicle behind him. He had already taken aim, a red laser dot dancing on Red Jack’s forehead.

His heart sank. Red Jack was a lunatic, a man who’d gladly blow himself up just to make a point.

The risk was too high. Ashton knew he couldn’t afford to provoke him. Gritting his teeth, Ashton reluctantly raised a hand, signaling Justin to stand down. The sniper scope wavered, but the order was clear.

With a heavy sigh, Ashton turned back to Red Jack, his face a mask of reluctant compliance. He walked back to the police car and opened the car door, dragging Fraser out with a rough yank. Fraser stumbled forward as Ashton shoved him toward the waiting madman.

Red Jack’s laughter echoed through the tense air as he caught Fraser. “I warned you, Ashton, you’re too softhearted. That kindness will be your undoing. Mark my words. But no worries. My business here is done. I won’t waste any more time here. See you later.”

Without warning, he tossed the detonator at Ashton like a casual parting gift, before slinging Fraser over his shoulder like a sack of potatoes. With a final, triumphant laugh, Red Jack turned and disappeared into the jagged pit left by the earlier explosion.

Red Jack’s intervention might have bought Fraser a temporary reprieve, but it was a hollow victory. Ashton and his team had already captured all the spies Fraser had planted in the government departments, completely dismantling Fraser’s meticulously orchestrated plot.

Back at their hidden safe apartment, instead of expressing gratitude, Fraser erupted in fury.

“You useless idiot! We had the perfect opportunity to eliminate Ashton, and you let him slip through our fingers! Why didn’t you take the shot and kill that bastard?” he roared, his face flushed with rage as he pointed angrily at Red Jack’s nose.

But this time, Red Jack’s usual smug grin was gone. The camaraderie he’d shown Fraser in the past evaporated, replaced by an icy stare.

Without uttering a word, Red Jack lunged forward, grabbing Fraser by the throat and slamming him against the nearest wall with a force that rattled the entire room. “And who the hell do you think you are, telling me how to do my job?” Red Jack hissed, his voice low and menacing. “Before you even set this harebrained scheme in motion, I warned you that Ashton might have laid a trap. But you chose to ignore me, blinded by your arrogance.” He tightened his grip until Fraser’s face turned a shade paler.
