Chapter 676
Chapter 676:
With that, Milena ended the call abruptly, leaving Ashton amused by her casual dismissal. Her decisiveness seemed to have sharpened recently.
Yet, before Milena could sort through the intelligence for Ashton, the countermove from the three families began the following day.
Early in the morning, while Ashton was still deep in sleep, a call from Abrial abruptly woke him.
“Wake up! I just explained this to you yesterday, and now we’re in deeper trouble than I anticipated. Come quickly and help us handle this,” Abrial urged, her voice filled with urgency and a trace of despair.
Ashton hadn’t expected such an immediate reaction from the families. He quickly freshened up and rushed to the office.
As Ashton entered the lobby, he noticed Marc, whom he had thrown out just the day before. This time, however, Marc was not alone. He was accompanied by several officials in uniform.
Ashton hurried to Abrial and whispered, “What’s the current situation? What is he planning?”
In a hushed voice, Abrial answered, “I’m not sure yet. They seem to be tax officials. They came here early this morning to audit our accounts and specifically requested to see you, the head of the company. It looks like more than a minor issue.”
All eyes among the uniformed officials were on Ashton as their leader, a middle-aged man, stepped forward. “We’ve received an anonymous report claiming that your merger with Sup Group was an attempt to dodge taxes. We are here to conduct an on-site investigation.”
Ashton quickly shook his head and responded, “That’s completely unfounded. We cleared all tax liabilities prior to the merger, and I oversaw the accounts myself. There are no tax issues.”
The leader of the officials smirked and replied, “It’s not up to you to declare what’s possible or not. Our audit of your company’s finances has revealed discrepancies. You are now under investigation for potentially falsifying financial records and evading taxes. We ask for your full cooperation during our further inquiries. Your company operations will be suspended until the investigation is completed and any penalties are assessed.”

After the man announced the investigation results, Ashton was about to speak, but Abrial stepped forward and snapped angrily, “Our company has only been operating for less than two months. How could we possibly be audacious enough to falsify accounts and evade taxes? I think you’re simply using this as an excuse to target us because you don’t know how to handle our company.”
The leading tax official’s eyes instantly turned cold and sharp. “Still making excuses? We already have evidence of your company’s tax evasion. The more you resist, the harsher the penalties will be. It might even result in your company facing an indefinite rectification procedure.”
If the company faced an indefinite rectification procedure, it would leave them vulnerable. Whether the rectification was deemed satisfactory was entirely up to the tax office. They would stagnate while their competitors moved ahead. The public would lose confidence, and investors would pull their funds, leading to the company’s eventual collapse.
