Chapter 677:

Once the rectification notice was issued, it essentially meant that the company had been sentenced to death. At the thought of these possibilities, Abrial was stunned. Her face turned pale with fear, and she didn’t dare to say anything more.

When Marc saw Abrial’s reaction, he smugly stepped forward and said mockingly, “See? You should have listened to me from the start. I’ve already told you that taking control of your company would be a piece of cake for me, right? Also, in case you don’t know, let me introduce this gentleman to you. He is Brixton Crawford, the section chief of the tax office, and my uncle. If he says you’ve evaded taxes, you must have done it. Just admit it. Don’t start a fight with our Crawford family. You’ll only be digging your own grave.”

Brixton’s expression changed slightly. He hadn’t expected Marc to openly reveal their relationship, but he quickly regained his composure. After all, he knew they were still at an advantage. Such a minor slip of the tongue wouldn’t matter.

Ashton had been deeply concerned about the possibility that Marc had tampered with the company’s accounts. But unexpectedly, Marc was so foolish that he took the initiative to expose their connection at such a critical moment. Ashton couldn’t help but feel relieved.

He now understood the source of Marc’s arrogance and quickly devised a way to handle the situation.

Ashton looked at Marc with a cold smile and retorted, “Aren’t your claims also baseless? Just because you throw around accusations doesn’t make them true. I have backup copies of all the projects submitted by the company. If you insist that we’ve falsified accounts, show me the evidence. Then we can compare and see who is at fault. Also, I’d like to invite a witness to ensure you haven’t secretly tampered with anything.”

Marc laughed dismissively. “Ha-ha! Alright, do you think we’re afraid? Invite whoever you like. Anyway, we have the upper hand. No matter who you call, it’s useless.”

Marc’s arrogance infuriated Abrial. However, she felt helpless at the moment and could only look at Ashton with pleading eyes.

Ashton raised an eyebrow at Marc’s words. With a smile, he asked, “Really? I can invite whoever I like? So, what if I invite the director of the tax office? How will you handle that?”

Inviting the director of the tax office to bear witness?

Upon hearing Ashton’s words, the uncle and nephew of the Crawford family exchanged glances and then burst into mocking laughter.

“You truly are a fool, blind to your own ignorance!” Marc scoffed at Ashton, disbelief dripping from his voice. “Do you really think you can summon the director like some errand boy?”

Brixton squinted, joining in the derision. “Even if you manage to pull some strings to reach Mr. Potter, he’s locked in a high-stakes municipal meeting right now. There’s no chance he’ll come running to your aid. By the time he’s free, your company will be knee-deep in penalties. And even if you somehow manage to get his help, the damage to your company will be permanent and irremediable.”

Abrial’s face flushed crimson with anger, yet she remained silent, aware that this was nothing new. Despite her frustration, there was little she could do.

Ashton, however, remained unfazed by their mockery. Without hesitation, he dialed the tax office’s director, Fernando Potter.
