As a result, even though the three families had the power to dominate the Carters, they had refrained from taking any action. With this new theory in mind, a spark of realization lit up in Stephen’s eyes.

“Wait! If what you’re saying is true, and the success of the Skyline Group’s branch is tied to the Carter family’s backing, then we might have an opening,” he exclaimed. “Skyline Group and the Carter family are just business partners. If we can find a way to stir up trouble for Abrial and cut off the Carter family’s support for Ashton, wouldn’t it be simple for us to take him down?”

To keep the Crawford family from stirring the pot once again, Ashton entrusted the task of locating Fraser to the police. Meanwhile, he accompanied Abrial to work at the company every day.

Though she appreciated Ashton’s help in guiding the company through turbulent waters, Abrial couldn’t shake the nagging feeling that the Crawford family, still reeling from their significant loss, might not let the matter rest. For the next three days, however, everything seemed to settle into a quiet lull, as though the conflict with the Crawford family had been nothing more than a bad dream that vanished with the first light of day.

But could peace truly reign?

Of course not.

Just as Abrial was beginning to relax, a call came from the Carter family’s company.

As the words were spoken on the other end, Abrial’s expression darkened.

Ashton, sensing the shift in the air, couldn’t help but ask, “What’s going on, Abrial?”

With a weary sigh, she explained, “Everything’s fine at our company, but the Carter family’s company is in a bit of a mess. There’s a group of people causing trouble at our flagship store, and the family wants me to handle it.”

Ashton’s eyes sharpened. “This has all the hallmarks of a scheme from the so-called three major families.”

“I think you’re right,” Abrial murmured, a frown tugging at her lips. “But something doesn’t sit right. I’ve been tasked with expanding our company here, so why would they saddle me with a family matter again? It doesn’t make sense.”

Ashton shared her suspicions but said, “Regardless of the reasoning, if the family has entrusted you with this task, you should see it through. I’ll be with you.”

She nodded, grateful for his presence. There was something about having Ashton by her side that always made the world feel a little less heavy.

Before long, they arrived at the Carter family’s flagship store.

No sooner had they stepped out of the car than they spotted a scene unfolding at the entrance. Three individuals were sitting on the ground, their wails of distress rising above the murmurs of the crowd.

Nearby, another person was holding a megaphone, fervently denouncing the store. “This heartless, evil company is a disgrace to Staville! We must expose them today and rid the city of this blight!”

Though the flagship store was situated on a quieter street, there were still plenty of curious onlookers. The spectacle quickly stirred whispers among the crowd, their eyes darting between the commotion and each other.
