Chapter 681
Chapter 681:
Ashton, masking his curiosity with the demeanor of an ordinary passerby, pushed through the crowd and approached the troublemakers.
“What’s going on here? What happened to this store?”
Prompted by Ashton’s question, the trio, still sobbing on the ground, began to recount their story. It turned out that the Carter family’s business was heavily invested in medical equipment. Recently, these three customers had purchased rehabilitation equipment from the store, intending to use it for physical therapy.
However, during their sessions, the equipment malfunctioned, causing further harm and exacerbating their injuries. The most severely injured among them even pulled out a medical report, hinting at the possibility of permanent paralysis.
Ashton’s mind immediately clicked into place. He understood why the Carter family might hesitate to handle this directly. Three product failures in quick succession could spell disaster for any business. Only someone as capable as Abrial could weather such a storm.
But even so, Ashton couldn’t shake the feeling that something wasn’t quite right. He studied the three injured individuals closely, his suspicions bubbling beneath the surface.
Just as he was about to probe further, an employee inside the store pointed toward Abrial and called out, “That’s our general manager, Abrial Carter! She’s here to resolve this matter. You can speak to her directly!”
At the sound of her name, the troublemakers’ eyes immediately locked onto Abrial, standing beside Ashton. The spotlight had shifted.
Abrial felt the piercing gazes from the crowd around her and the hostility emanating from the troublemakers before her. Yet, she kept her composure steady and unwavering.
She scoffed, her tone sharp. “Why are you looking at me like that? I’m handling matters for another business right now. Issues with our family company are beyond my responsibilities. If you need a solution, I can connect you with the product manager for further discussion.” But her words fell on deaf ears. The three injured individuals ignored her explanation. Instead, they summoned their friends and family, who quickly formed a circle around her and Ashton.
One of the men, broad and muscular, couldn’t hold back his fury. “Your company’s only good at dodging blame and pushing responsibility onto someone else! First, the store manager says it’s not his job. Now, the general manager tells us she’s not in charge here and that we should find the product manager. Where does it stop?” he spat, anger flaring in his voice.
Another injured person joined in. “Exactly! Do you think we’re here to extort money? Who would lie about their own health like this?”
“We’re not asking for much,” the first man added, his tone hard. “Just help us recover from our injuries quickly. If you keep dodging responsibility and our conditions get worse, you’ll face legal and financial consequences.”
Their demands struck a chord with the crowd, and murmurs of agreement rippled through the onlookers, who began to cast accusing looks at Abrial.
Abrial frowned, frustration creeping into her expression. She wasn’t involved in the production side of things. So, why was she being blamed?
Still, she knew ignoring this would only bring trouble to her family’s business. The backlash could be far more damaging than the current predicament.
