Chapter 684
Chapter 684:
Before Ashton could respond, a voice like sunlight cutting through fog rang out behind him.
“Ashton! I’m here—I was just around the corner, so I made it in record time, didn’t I?”
Abrial’s head whipped around, and there stood Alisha, resplendent in her uniform, approaching with a warm, reassuring smile.
Abrial looked bewildered at the sight of Alisha’s arrival, and Ashton couldn’t help but smile as he explained, “I didn’t question those two officers’ credentials. The truth is, the confidence of these three troublemakers made me have second thoughts. So, rather than calling the general police line, I decided to reach out to an officer I know personally.”
Realization dawned on Abrial. “So, you sensed something wasn’t right and called Alisha directly instead of the police?”
Ashton glanced at the group in front of him, a hint of amusement in his eyes. “Exactly. When I got in touch with Alisha, she mentioned she was close by, handling another case, and could be here quickly. But instead of her, these two officers, whom I didn’t recognize, showed up. That raised some suspicion. So, I tossed a casual question their way, and they seemed rattled, as if they were hiding something.”
Just then, Alisha arrived, taking note of the two officers standing nearby. Her brows furrowed in confusion as she addressed them.
“Normally, when someone reports an incident, the closest officers are alerted by the station,” she stated, her tone sharp. “I’m in this area, yet I received no such call. Where did you two get notified from?”
The three so-called injured people, who had been smugly confident moments before, suddenly sensed things weren’t going according to plan. Since Ashton hadn’t called the police, there was no clear reason why these two officers were here at all.
Still, one of them stubbornly sneered, “Come on. Look at her—she’s too glamorous to be a real cop, don’t you think? Probably a fake they brought in to intimidate us. You should arrest her and question her too!”

The truth was, the two men standing before Ashton were indeed legitimate officers, though they had been bought off. How could they fail to recognize Alisha, a familiar face within the police department?
The two officers turned pale, hissing through gritted teeth at the troublemakers. “Be quiet, all of you! Are you trying to take us down with you? Do you know who this is? She’s the police director’s daughter!”
Hearing this revelation, the three troublemakers stood speechless, while anyone else who might have spoken up reconsidered, swallowing their words.
Alisha, sharp as ever, hadn’t caught every detail yet, but she’d picked up enough from Ashton’s remarks to piece things together.
Noticing her fellow officers standing with these troublemakers, she quickly grasped the real situation.
Fixing them with a steely gaze, Alisha addressed the two officers coldly. “So, you were in on this from the start, weren’t you? Waiting for Ashton’s call just so you could show up and pin false accusations on him and his companion?”
